UPDATED: MAY 16, 2021 pitch black with beige head, it has the nose of creamy toffee with a hint of whisky. smooth and substantial, it imparts lingering taste of currant and prune. fruity, nutty, and delicious .

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2021 Imperial stout de la longue série des hel en verdoemenis, ici infusé avec des copeaux de chêne imbibés de cognac 40 ans d'âge .. Je suis tout à fait opposé au principe des copeaux, et je ne m'attendais pas à ce traitement d'après le nom de la bouteille … (eiken = chêne) Mon exemplaire avait de nombreuses années. Couleur marron intense, tendant sur le noir, à l'opacité très forte. Mousse brun clair, en nappage diaphane et couronne à la paroi. Arômes de café très noir, malts fortement torréfiés, pointe de noisette .. 1ère bouche sur un café, chocolat noir et noisettes grillées Arrière-bouche qui introduit du bois et du tabac, mais peu de cognac .. 2ème bouche avec une légère prédominance du grillé sur le torréfié Arrière-bouche qui revient sur la question du bois, sans trouver de réponse ! Longueur qui ne démontre aucune supériorité sur la bière de base … Le cognac est quasi absent de la question !! On trouve même de la vanille ! Jambes huileuses, longues. Levure boisée, belle ligne. Alcool étrangement sous son niveau !! Pour être théoriquement accompagné de cognac de 40 ans, c'en est presque un comble … Finale agréable certes, mais sans décollage … à Cognac. CONCLUSION : je ne suis plus du tout étonné de trouver des versions prétendues ' améliorées ' sous la bière de base .. C'est devenu une quasi constante de ces variations impromptues .. Un second point important est que les copeaux ont encore une fois faussé la nuance par rapport à un vrai chêne (eiken) pour la maturation ... Et en 3, pour trouver du cognac de 40 ans dans cette bière, il faut être fort ! En conclusion, c'est loin d'être mauvais .. mais c'est nettement sous la hel en verdoemenis de base .. UPDATED: JAN 9, 2019 Cerveza de color negro y espuma marrón generosa y duradera. Aromas a maltas tostadas,levaduras, café, cacao. El sabor es licoroso, cercano a un brandy con un punto de acidez. Muy buena cerveza.

Long time want! Bottle 115 / 816. Opened at a complete line up of all 666 éditions, this being the prelude of that beer. Pours black, no head. Smell is intense, immense dark chocolate. Taste is full, intense dark chocolate. Notes of wood, cognac has blended away, but releases enormous complexity. Intense dark chocolate ending. Lovely beer.

Bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker. Bottled 9 April 2009. Pours darkest brown. with no head. Aroma is oxidized, booze, cognac barrel, oak, roasted. Body is heavy but not sticky thick, as the oxidation adds some acidity to break the oiliness. A bit milky, too. Nuts, caramel, more roasted flavours in a flat but sweet beer. Boozy too, but never taking the spotlight. One can only wonder what this beer was when it was a little younger. Sweet and flavourful nutty palate. Warming without being overwhelming. Good!

Bottle @Salt Horse, Edinburgh [2nd Bottle Share]. Pours black, opaque, tan head. Nose is malty, chocolate, vanilla, woody. Taste is milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, superb.

Purchased a bottle from the Ale House, Amesbury bottle cellar (I dont want to remember the price of this) ha ha. Date of bottle is 1/28/13. Pitch black color, no head. Aroma is chocolate hints, roast and booze. Booze at this age and only 10 %? Uh?

Flavor has a mild brownie batter base, dark fruits,molasses, and.... a slight amount of booze which teally shouldnt be here at it’s age. But with 40 year old cognac... ok, Well, I will not be able to track another bottle down, so no matter. If you get it at a reasonable price, pull the trigger.

Totalmente negra, espuma marrom claro de pouca formação mas boa persistência, precisei servir de uma altura acima da média para criar espuma. Aroma intenso de malte torrado, leve defumado, açucar queimado, mais café e cacau do que chocolate, álcool potente. Paladar de dulçor alto seguido de amargor seco torrado, corpo apesar de licoroso tem baixa carbonatação e transmite sensação de aguado em alguns momentos. Lúpulo e leve acidez de folhas verdes aparece mais ao final, longa persistência e intensificação do torrado seco. Já provei melhores no estilo, esperava mais.
