dutchdarthvader (1868) - NETHERLANDS - DEC 3, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2021 A 330ml black waxed bottle, bottled on 28th January 2016, with a best before date of 28th January 2041. Poured into a snifter glass. It was black in colour with no head and no lacing. Aroma is quite complex, whisky, dark fruit, brett, dark malt, light roast, chocolate, oak, boozy. Tastes of light roast, earthy, dark malt, chocolate, whisky, herbal, slightly sour, medicinal. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, I don’t know. The aroma was quite complex but it was on and off. Every time I took a whiff, it changed a bit. But the taste really didn’t work for me. It didn’t really come together. I tried the Bruichladdich (peated) BA after this, and that was enjoyable. The brett just didn’t do anything for me here.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2021 2016 vintage bottle at home. Pours black with beige head. Nose is led by an interesting, vineous, kinda acidic, kinda fruity character that I’m guessing is the brett. Below that there’s chocolate, coffee and roasted malts but it’s far not as strong as one’s expect in a stout. Taste is that red grape and cherry-like fruity character, dark chocolate, some woody depth to it’s but not significant. A bit boozy, coffeeish, light to moderate bitterness too. Closes with a warming, mainly sweet finish but with a touch of bitterness toit, has a medium to full body and soft carbo. The brett gave it a fruity vineous character rather than the expected funk and the barrel aging is very hard to pick up as well. A decent RIS with an interesting twist but expected more tbh.

14.06.2019, 0,33l bottle (2016 vintage) @ home:
Nice light brown bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is dry oaky, bark, oak, old cellar, soil, booze, minerals, peat, weeds, dark malts, burnt toast. Taste is dry sour-ish boozy, soil, weeds, booze, peat, oak, bark, minerals, dark malts, licorice, medicine. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry sour-ish boozy mouthfeel. Not my cup of coffee.

Tasting at Brian's, bottle; bottled 27 Jan 2018
Dark mahogany colour, close to black. Very interesting aroma, strong spirit, touch of apple. Low carbonation; heavy roasted malts, some tobacco, herbal bitterness, Cynar; there is some acidity that I never find too appropriate to an Imperial Stout. But overall it's good.

fiery1 (4103) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2019 330ml bottle @ home. Pours a mostly opaque dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose is rich and complex, molasses, mildly smoked whiskey, roast malt. Flavour is earthy, muddy, cocoa powder, mild smoky whiskey, and rounding out with a roasted malt. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, and a moderate sweetness. Weird.

beerplace (6389) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2019 330ml bottle at Brian's. Appearance: very dark brown with a weak brown head. Aroma: fruity, smoky, brett, sour. Taste: similar, roasted malt. Overall: don't know why De Molen would do it at all...

mcberko (34280) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2019 330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is complex and dynamic, with lots of semi-smoky whiskey barrels upfront, followed by dark red fruits, brett, and medium roast. Flavour is very odd, with lots of earthy brett upfront, followed by subtly smoky whiskey, and some roast. This tastes like something they didn't intend to create and turned into a salvage operation. Smells much better than it tastes -- the taste is just muted, lacking cohesion and coordination. I'm not convinced.

Oakes (26757) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2019 Dark brown. No head. Poured inky. On the nose, there's some chocolate, and a touch of wood, and some warm malt notes from the Bruichladdich. No smoke, though, but if you wish for it you might find it on the palate. It's flat and oily, with a light brett note. Soft, hint of chocolate. Kind of messy, doesn't really come together much. Doesn't quite work for me.
