COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2021 A classic that sits on the border between a Double IPA and an American Barleywine, tending towards the second. Aroma of caramel, citrus peel hops, pine, brown sugar, biscuit. Malty and hoppy, in a traditional way. Pours copper, translucent, a very small off-white bubbly head that stays along the glass and produces some laces. Pours sweet and bitter, sweetness of malt, caramel and biscuit, raisins, followed by hop bitterness that adds flavour of grapefruit and orange peel, pine and strong bitterness. Thick, viscous, well carbonated, very boozy, hence a sipper, forget 'India Pale Ale' written on the bottle... So a big and bold ale, very strong and flavourful, which goes along very well after the Porchetta sandwich I've just had.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2021 Bottle. Pours an opaque gold with light off-white head. Aroma is a bit fruity and maybe a bit floral. Taste is sweet and boozy. Not as bitter as I had been expecting. Whew! Strong stuff!

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2021 At last! 12oz bottle from my brother. Copper colored pour with a lasting fluffy, off-white head. Sweet malty, boozy aroma. Taste initially starts with some caramel, then hops, before being obliterated by the ABV. Malt-bomb and hop-bomb....double whammy!

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2021 Pours from the bottle a cloudy copper color with a small light beige head. Aroma has sweet fruity mixed with pine. The flavor is fruity to the point of seeming like a European beer. The palate is smooth without the bitterness of most IPAs. This is an unusual IPA that can be appreciated by the mature beer drinker.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2021 It's not like an IPA. It smells like barley and maple sugar. The first alcohol is not very comfortable to pour into the nasal cavity, but the alcohol performance is not so radical after that, for an 18 degree wine, alcohol is hidden. Sweet entrance, make the bitter taste of the wine is not obvious, more in the form of licorice. The feeling of flower explosion is not, but more thick and sweet malt, more like barley wine or American liquor. An interesting wine, which can be experienced.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2021 A small taste from a bottle @ Pieni Roobertinkatu. Pours cloudy amber with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malts, fruits, alcohol, hops. Strong. Flavor is sweet malts, fruits, pine, alcohol, hops. Excellent balance. Not too sweet. Strong but not boozy. Pretty darn good.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2021 A fine brew from one of the best breweries in the USA. Something I would buy again. Overall a very good brew.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2021 On tap at Beveridge Place in Seattle. I had this back to back with De Dolle 40th Anniversary Pale Ale. Nice contrast between the two while eating Thai food! I've had this several times over the years and always look forward to a taste. Obviously an intense brew with big flavors of malts and hops, some alcohol, la la la, a bit different every year but nice to sample for a big, bad, flavorful gem.

ronaldtheriot (2495) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - NOV 28, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2020 120 Minute IPA has a thin, ivory head, a translucent orange appearance, with some roiling off-white sediment, a central bubble stream, and a good deal of lacing. The aroma is of intense apricot marmalade and chutney. The flavor is of very sweet white bread crust, resinous hop oils, bitterness, and the chutney. 120 Minute IPA has a somewhat heavy body and a dry finish. RJT

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2020 Strong hop aroma that transfers to a sharp candy like body finish is bubbly with a bit of alcohol.
