Stout aged in Utopias barrels Ages well Bittering 24.5 units OG 31.62°P Beer Geekery Info. The experience of drinking Utopias is often described as ritualistic. Rare and often rumored about in the darkest corners of the beer community, this variety of World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. The rumors are true. Often whispered about in the darkest corners of the beer community, World Wide Stout just got a little more complex and whole lot more sought-after. Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, you might be wondering how this boundary-pusher could get any more boisterous. One word – Utopias. Chock full of intricate aromas and warming flavors, Sam Adams Utopias is a unique blend of aged ales dating back more than 25 years – the perfect complement to an already complex World Wide Stout. And thanks to a shipment of freshly emptied Utopias barrels from our friends at Sam Adams, we were able to see just how well these two beloved brews would mingle. After sitting in the barrels for a full seven months, Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout was born. The result is a jet-black, rich and roasty beer with balanced notes of espresso, cocoa, sherry and vanilla that clocks in at 17.3% ABV. Limited quantities of this exclusive brew will be available throughout Delaware in 4-pack 12 oz. bottles beginning Friday, Mar. 27. “At Dogfish Head, we are always searching for innovative ways to push the boundaries of craft beer. Whether that’s discovering a new-to-brewing ingredient, like using monk fruit to create our full-flavored, lo-cal IPA, Slightly Mighty; inventing a new-to-brewing culinary ingredient, like continual hopping, the process behind our 60 Minute IPA and 90 Minute Imperial IPA; or bringing a classic, off-centered ale to life in a new way, like we are doing with Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout,” says Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione. “And what better way to personify our explorative mindset than by borrowing some barrels from our pals at Sam Adams to integrate two pioneering bold and ageable craft beers?” Originally released in 1999, World Wide Stout is dark, roasty and complex, with a depth similar to that of a fine port wine. Since its inception, we’ve released numerous variants of World Wide Stout, including – Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout, aged on oak with real vanilla beans, and Bourbon Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout, aged in freshly-emptied bourbon barrels still wet with spirits. Meanwhile, Sam Adams debuted Utopias in 1994 and releases it every two years. Reminiscent of a vintage port or fine sherry, each release of Utopias boasts a distinct blend of aged ales for a truly unique tasting experience. UPDATED: JAN 11, 2022 Bottle shared with friends on 12/11/21 during my annual Christmas Movie Marathon. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, maple and booze. Malty and chocolatey flavor with slight maple and vanilla character before a boozy finish.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2022 Pours dark brown with virtually no head. Strong almost vapor-like nose in the bottle of toffee, caramel, warm malts, and chocolate essences. Boozy and antiseptic. The nose after the pour was very strong for a beer with almost no head. First taste is WOW, what a concoction! It left me breathless. The boozy vibe took me aback but I adjusted to it readily. 17.3% ABV. . Low carbonation, more like a cola in appearance. All of a sudden it It looked like dark prune juice in a glass. Not a good sign. Happily, other awesome major flavors that presented themselves were tobacco, chocolate and molasses. A bit of tootsie roll, dark fruit, figs, and dates give it a rich dank sweetness. There is a good bite on the hops (but there’s so much alcohol I can’t really know!) A long finish of molasses. And as it warms it tasted even more awesome. The really good news is that this 'beer' will last you a long time, sip by sip. Almost like a cognac. It is an extremely strong beverage so be careful! Take a long time drinking this or it will bowl you over. Special occasions only.

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2022 Dark, fulsome, rich. Utopias present, melding perfectly with the WWS and somehow not feeling like a 17% abv beer. Delightful.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2022 January 1, 2022 - bottle from a 4-pack picked up at AV3, opened right after drinking the 2021 Utopias, and first beer of the new year. Very dark pour with almost no head and takes a lot to get a slight foam going. Aroma was strong booze, roasty, nutty, dark fruit and wood. Taste was super sweet to start, the boozey heat came on quickly with a dry, woody and spicy finish. The Utopias barrel aging was very noticeable and a great idea that was well executed.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2022 It's been awhile I did one of these. 12oz bottle, drank room temperature. Very dark brown almost reaching black with red hues. Quickly dissipating brown head. Sweet, big, malty aroma with notes of port, booze, molasses, cherry, touch of expresso and more. Mouthfeel is smooth, pinch of carbonation, medium bodied. Flavors of a very deep malt, port, chocolate, raisons, booze and expresso at the finish but it doesn't burn, it warms. Not as cloying as you think. Stuck one in the closet for a year and we'll see what happens. Really good stout that was fun to drink.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2021 Bottle from Total Wine in Orlando, FL. Aroma is caramel, boozy toffee, cognac, calvados, dark fruits, Barley wine vibes. Taste is tangy dark chocolate, boozy caramel, chestnuts, stewed dark fruits. An absolutely impressive beer considering the ABV...like a Barley Wine meets a Stout (but less hoppy than a tradition BW). Incredible.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2021 Bottle. Pours a pitch black hue, some brown hues, a medium beige head that dies down. A big sweet malty nose, huge cherries. Very big, cherries, caramel, toffee, sweet sugary malts. Drinks like a big beer, but not particularly hot. Beastly.

coachd (2388) - O'Fallon, Missouri, USA - DEC 23, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2021 Oaky red wine and butterscotch aroma. Flat black color with no head. Tastes like everything from the aroma, very rich butterscotch flavors. Nice smooth palate, no carbonation. Excellent.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2021 A single 12 oz bottle bought at Total Wine last month. I know of Utiopias but have not tasted it. A nice evening, sharing this brew with the prodigal son, I tilt into a shaker glass since it is the one at hand. Syrupy scent, sweet with some breadiness. The taste, only better, toffee, cough syrup, wood, heat from the booze, dark fruit and dark bread. The drink, the alcohol, the whole thing, impressive.
