COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed using the Yorkshire square system of fermentation, the nut brown ale calls the North of England home. A hint of hazelnut, a dash of rich caramel and a sprinkle of chocolate malt all intertwine with the flowery bouquet of Willamette hops to produce a round-bodied ale worthy of its homeland. Take a leaf out of our buddy Cyril the red squirrel’s book, and enjoy a Dundee Nut Brown Ale in your own drey. (Drey = a squirrel’s nest. See, you learned something too.)

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2019 Now that I have added this beer, I noticed that Dundee is brewed by Genesse. That explains the price and quality...it all makes sense now! Actually, this one is decent, about average for a brown ale. This is a new beer by them that I grabbed in the variety pack. Overall, their beers are OK for the price...but nothing really special. Thinking I like Yuengling better.

Dark brown color, sweet malty aroma. Very sweet & malty with caramel has a tangy, mineral salt follow. As with the other offerings by Dundee, this is just middle of the road.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear copper with a thin tan head. Very mild aroma, some light caramel and malts. Flavor is very mild as well. Not much in the way of toasted nuts or big malts. Just very watery and light.

Drank from a twelve ounce bottle. The best part of this beer was/is the label. Aromas of dark malts, nuts, and bread. The initial feel on the tounge is carbonation with a smooth finish. The beginning taste is watery with a bread like finish. Another poor effort by Dundee.

Loved the label and that’s about all. Fairly boring nut brown honestly. Where’s the toasty flavor?

"i proved i was a sucker for this type of beer with the Leinenkugel Fireside Nut brown, but this one didn’t quite do it for me. Not bad. The carmel nutty sweetness was pleasant enough, but the beer was juuuust a bit on the thin and boring side with not a lot else going on."

Transfer from BA review on 5-18-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a medium clear brown color with a billowing off white head with big carbonation bubbles entrapped within.. The head has good retention and eventually fades to leave a light level of lacing. Smell – The smell is of brown bread, caramel and hazelnut; sweet roasted nut describes it best. Taste – The taste is rather surprising. While I was expecting something of sweeter malt up front it was rather dry. A dry roasty biscuit flavor meets the tongue. While caramel is big in the nose it is not heavily present in the taste at all. The initial roasty biscuit flavors are meet with a roasted nut flavor more toward the middle of the taste. This mix of flavors lasts to the end of the taste where a little bitterness sits and lingers on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body and carbonation are both very average. A thicker body would have suited the flavors better, but the lighter body makes it go down very easily. Overall average. Overall – Not bad, but it lacks some of the caramel sweetness and thicker body that would likely have accentuated the taste of the beer. All in all it has a good roasty nuttiness, but is a little too bitter.

Rated on 10-17-2011 (Bottle) This beer’s appearance is a medium sized smooth, fizzy ivory head with short retention, copper transparent body, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, nutty, light chocolate, and a suggestion of hops. The flavor is malt, chocolate and nutty. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light bodied. This beer has a weak and boring flavor. It lacks character and is a beer that is not on my want to drink again list.

Pours a very nice red with a thick, frothy, almost white head. Aroma is almost non-existent. Nice lacing. Taste is boring. Almost no discernible flavors at all. Finish is almost astringent. Disappointing.
