COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

UPDATED: OCT 4, 2021 33cl bottle from Pauwels drink store in Courtrai, Belgium drinking 4/10/2021 BB 02.2022 Pours a black body with medium foamy loose brownish head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, raisins, licorice. Taste is round, smooth and easy with good sweetness and notes of roasted malt, some cocoa, licorice, some slight taste of yeast, dark fruits and berries, brown sugar. Long enough bittersweet finish and lingering aftertaste. Smooth light body and watery texture, average carbonation. Drinkable and good enough if a bit light in body and taste, easy and for everyone smooth tasty stout.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2021 Butelka. Czarne o średniej bezowej pianie, która opada szybko. Dominuje palony słód, mleczna czekolada, lekka kawa.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2020 330 ml bottle. Bottle has been aged for about a year, with best before date of Dec 2020. Appearance is a dark brown black, with a big head of tan froth as the carbonation bursts out of the bottle. Aroma is roasty malts and a little coffee and chocolates for most part. Taste is actually quite mild, a little roast malts, coffee and chocolates, without any strong dominating flavour, but rather a blended mix without much bitter or dryness. Guessing that this is the more rounded version brewed.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2020 Pours a very dark brown but not quite opaque, very long lasting tan brown head. Smells malty and with a lot of roast. The beer is very malty and grainy, it has a bit of a lighter body than expected for a beer of this level of flavour. The unique part of this beer is its very long and roasted finish, it seems to last forever, impressive, enjoyable brew.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2020 Bottle as part of a delivery from the Blue Boar, Leicester. Dark brown, opaque with a loose tan head. Liquorice, stone fruit, spicy yeast notes in the aroma. Taste is sweet with light notes of cola nut and more liquorice. Touches of medicinal bitterness in the long finish. Cocoa bitters in the aftertaste. Very heavy carbonation. Very nice!

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2020 Taken as our second drink of the evening, I was hoping this one would have been a dark ale instead of a stout. My friend really liked it, where I thought it was correct.
