UPDATED: JUL 14, 2019 This is a backlog rating from 2011, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time. Words to describe this beer are roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, thin.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2019 On at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet chocolate malt, bourbon, vanilla, hazelnut. Flavor of chocolate malt, tootsie roll, charred malt, vanilla, hint of bourbon, licorice, wooden/oak barrel in the finish. Bourbon is not overpowering but works well with the underlying beer. Lots of oaky notes from the barrel too. 8/4/8/4/14 (3.8/5)

Porter aged in whiskey barrels. There’s a hint of vanilla and strong whiskey. Seemed to have a sour finish. Tasted on 3\15\2014

On tap at Fat Head’s Brewer’s Brawl
Meh. This is an example of why throwing anything and everything into a barrel is not always the answer to making mediocre beer better. After just a few sips it was apparent that the weaknesses could not be overcome even with a great barrel. Skip it and Elevator in general.

Aroma / Appearance - A watery base looks like some poured flat Dr Pepper into a small sample glass. Soft creamy head adds a texture of dirty whipped cream. The strong smell of bottom shelf whiskey overwhelms the malt bill, light hops, and other foundational aromas. Even if it were not so strong the undertones have an indifferent feel.

Flavor / Palate - The watery mouthfeel is thin but boozy. Flat Dr Pepper mixed with a splash of ginger ale and a generous pour of whiskey surges in the mouth. Mercifully the finish is forgettable which makes it easy to move on to a new sample without too much residual finish. Sample at your own risk.

From a bottle. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate. Chocolatey flavors upfront bathed in rich whiskey tones, then vanilla, raisin and licorice. Finishes with milk chocolate and a slight hop bite. Peppery feeling on the tongue, but the rich creamy flavors provide a smoothness. Very nice.
