COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Thirty miles north of Barrelworks lies the fertile Santa Maria Valley. Its warm days and cool marine layer-fed evenings allow for a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables to be grown in its rich soil. One of Santa Maria’s crown jewels is locally grown raspberries. We jumped at the opportunity to ferment fresh local raspberries with one of our Barrelworks creations. Behold Bretta Rosé! A low-alcohol Berliner Weisse style ale, acidified and matured in French oak puncheons for 6 months, is the foundation for this gem. Add 1000 lbs. of fresh raspberries, allow a secondary wild fermentation for 4 more months and voila (!), we have a crisp effervescent concoction, bursting with raspberry perfume and flavor, a rosé color, bracing acidity, and a clean and refreshing finish.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2020 Aroma: (malt, hops, Esters, and other aromat Tart cherry, a touch of salt, melons and a great amount of sour. The malts and hops are overpowered by sour beer. There is a residual sweetness in the background. Appearance: Slightly hazy, highly carbonated and a burnt orange color. The head is bright white, consisting of small bubbles and the head remains a centimeter thick. Lacing is strong. Flavor: Sour but pleasant, a tart sweetness with Granny Smith apple flavors, a touch of caramel sweetness, and tart cherry flavors. There is also a sour warhead bite impression. Balance is sour, finish is dry. Mouthfeel: High carbonation, body is thin, no noticable alcohol warmth. Is not creamy, no noticeable astringency. Residual dryness from the high carbonation, a touch of a carbonic bite. Overall: A very impressive sour, complex flavors, and a great depth. The beer is sour as expected, but balanced with a good level of sweetness to clean the impression of from strong sour flavors. Very enjoyable.
