COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Created by (Casey) Hughes, Exit 13 Chocolate Stout is named for the exit that provides access to Newark International Airport and the Port of Newark. Brewed with a mix of imported and domestic malts, as well as dark wheat, the stout gets floral, fruity and citrus notes from Irish ale yeast and Pacific Northwest hops. In total, Hughes and his team added 580 lbs. of Belcolade Dark Chocolate, then aged the beer with 200 lbs. of cocoa nibs and 12 lbs. of vanilla beans. Hughes recommends it as a dessert beer, and also describes it as perfect for sharing with friends as a winter warmer.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2019 22 oz bottle Pours a coffee brown. Decent head and chocolate aroma. Sweet, Milky Way flavors and a quick, thin finish. Holding up ok for its age.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2019 This is a backlog rating from 2011 from a bottle shared by someone in the group, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time. Words to describe this beer are mild roasted malts, chocolate, general fruit character, a hint of vanilla.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2019 I was expecting a bit more from this for the price, but nonetheless a solid extra stout. Chocolate stands out nice and great balance with hop finish. Could use maybe a bit more thickness, flavor, and hop...but that would make it almost like an IPS. Not much different than the new Guinness Foreign Extra where you can get an entire 4-pack for slightly less price, or some other foreign extras out there. Good representation for this style...appearance and flavor is what makes it here. Probably won't get again, but worth the sample.

Bottle. Dark brown. Aroma of chocolate, roast malt, vanilla. Taste is big roast malt and some chocolate. Some cofee. Medium heavy body. Creamy texture. It's pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flight at brewery. Just a little milky chocolate that overpowers any beer. Too much and Yoo-hoo like. Nope.

on tap from the brewpub in Brewerytown - nice chocolate aroma and flavor. Super dark chocolatey color.

Pours a near black from a bottle, nearly no head, what little there is quickly dissipates with medium sized bubbles. Chocolate and roasted malty aroma, similar flavor, a little licorice on the backdrop. Sweet, a little fizzy. Okay beer.

Draft offering, black color with tan head that sticks around forever, nose is interesting to say the least, chocolate, marshmallows, roasted nuts, mouthfeel is deceptive, dessert like but full bodied, enjoyable stout all around..

Bitter & dry but overall pretty & smells lovely! Pours nearly black w/ a big tan head & good lacing. The aroma is roasty w/ a chocolate undertone. Taste is a nice blend of chocolate & roast. It finishes pretty dry by overall is quite a nice offering!

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a dark brown with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has notes of rich chocolate, creme brulee, and malted milk balls. Sweet and chocolaty taste. Bigger body and medium carbonation. Good beer overall.
