COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Frangelic Mountain Brown is the quintessential taproom “one-off” beer: Founders’ brewers created the Mountain Brown series for their taproom in Grand Rapids in 2007. Frangelic Mountain Brown is the 16th iteration in the series of popular brown ales—and it likely won’t be the last. The singular characteristic of this beer comes from the use of hazelnut coffees in the brewing process. The beer has distinct aromatics with sweet and nutty flavors beautifully balanced. Founders is known for its beers made with coffee (i.e., the Breakfast Stout series), but this is both the brewery’s first brown ale and its first beer brewed with hazelnut coffees to be bottled. It clocks in at 9% ABV.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2021 Dark brown with lasting head. Aroma of roasted hazelnuts is ok but the taste is too artificial. Weird bitterness and extreme out of balance taste.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2021 Aroma; aromas of chocolate pudding, almond, roasted malts, hazelnut syrup, cabbage, coffee latte, vanilla, cinnamon. Look; beige lasting head on a very dark brown body. Taste; chocolate pudding, almond, roasted malts, hazelnut syrup, cabbage, coffee latte, vanilla, cinnamon, mocca caramel, and beer finishes roasted nutty. Feel; nice body and co². Overall; I like brown ale. [bottle 35.5cl purchased at Winemonopoly T@home near PivotekaH7]

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2021 Robe noire. Un nez très porté sur la noisette. Ils aiment les déclinaisons de Brown Ale chez Founders et ils le font plutôt bien, c'est assez rond et savoureux. La bouche reste sur la noisette mais se mêle à des notes de café.

BillWyce (1436) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 2, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2021 Pours opaque dark brown with some ruby red. Light tan 2-finger head. Aroma of coffee with the hazelnut behind it. Body is medium-to-full. Viscous and oily. Finish is long with a touch of astringency. Flavor of coffee, giving way to the hazelnut, with both notes blending at the back.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2020 Copenhagen 19/12 2020. 35,5 cl bottle from Kvickly, Østergade, Middelfart. A very big and probable “frangelic” mountain on the label. Pours unclear, brown with a red hue. Small off-white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing. Aroma is intense with a strong candy-like, sweet odor mingling with nutty notes. Brown sugar, Nutella. Hazelnut, toffee. Coffee with a load of sugar. Hides the alcohol pretty well. Light carbonation. Quite thick, soft, smooth, lightly, tingling texture. Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a very moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a light bitter undertone. Finish is sweet and boozy. Like a nutty liqueur. Quite a sweet bomb. If you like your croissant with chocolate and Nutella this one is for you.

AlfredoGarcia (530) - Santiago, CHILE - DEC 15, 2020
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2020 355 ml bottle. Bought online. dark color, creamy head. super strong hazelnut smell! omg! some chocolate as well (like those with hazelnut in candies) super original, loved it. Taste is strong, but not overly sweet, very well balanced. Aftertaste could be the only backside of this beer, but i really loved it! Recently i tasted the famous 'imperial stout' of Founders, but i found this one way better.

BigMomma (308) - Leuven, BELGIUM - DEC 14, 2020
UPDATED: DEC 14, 2020 33xl bottle 2019. Really nutty nose with hints of cacao, hazelnut (liquid Nuttela?), lots of malt and some sweetness. Very hearthy nose. Full bodied, sweet malty, chocolate, slightly vanilla (Bourbon) flavour ending in a roasted dry coffee finish with nutty notes. Lovely hearthwarming beer for a winter evening!
