COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hearty brew that is black as night with a strong roasted malt character and a full body. After its initial release in January 2010, our Imperial Stout was aged for a full year in Bourbon casks from Kentucky. This extended aging presents hints vanilla and oak. This, combined with the robust character of the Imperial Stout make for a smooth, wonderful taste experience. A hearty cellar beer. Very Limited Availability - 22oz Bottles and Draught. Black Gold was named one of "the best" barrel aged beers in the US by Men’s Journal and took home a silver medal at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival® in the Wood and Barrel Aged Strong beer category).

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2021 From their cellar, server said 2016 or thereabouts. Roast and bourbon. Coffee and caramel. Fig and leather. Pretty well integrated bourbon, which is appreciated from this side. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bittersweet and boozy finish, though booze is light.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2019 Bottle dated 2013, so well aged. Pours thick black with thin, tan head. Aroma is roast, molasses and bourbon. Taste is rich brown sugar, moving to wood, vanilla and roast. Finish is roast, wood and bourbon. A tasty stout.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2018 Big trade tasting #3. We had the regular version, not the Black Gold, but according to Ratebeer it's the same. Opaque black. Lots of bourbon, licorice. Pretty thin mouthfeel. Very boozy. Unimpressive.

awesome nose of dark chocolate roasted malt bourbona vanilla and oak. But mourn feel is way off, too light too carbonated , tons of bourbon but too bitter with big roasted malt and vanilla finish. Starts good and then....

Brassin 2016; 9,5%

22 oz. bottle from a trade. 2016 vintage. Black in color with full brown head with lace. Aroma is mild roast, moderate bourbon, and light coconut nuance.

Flavor is vanilla, coconut nuance, oak, and a bold lasting bourbon throughout the sip. Mild warming after the sip. Body lean’s on the lighter side for the style but the flavor is nice. Barrel aged without any adjuncts... Soild
