UPDATED: DEC 25, 2021 Can. Clear pour. Grain aroma. I used to live near Köln but despite that never really warmed to Kolsch and was much more a fan of the Alt beer of their neighbouring rival city Düsseldorf. The body is cereal and grainy but smooth and easy drinking. There is a slight hop finish at the end. Not the most favourable style but for a light easy drinking beer it is much better than the macro beers. Gaffel is a well done version of a style that is not my favourite.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2021 Bottle online from The Trembling Madness. Pours a clear light golden colour with a large thick throthy white head. Light aromas of grains, hay, bread, citrus and floral. Taste has the same light notes from the aroma, more subtle citrus and floral notes with some peppery spice on the finish. Thin to medium body, lively fizzy palate and oily mouthfeel. Ok beer. I have only tried a couple of Kölsch style beers but for now i prefer the one from Reissdorf.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2021 Bottle from HOTM. Clear gold with moderate sized white head. Aroma of light flora and lemon as well as biscuit. Taste is a slightly creamy grain with floral and light fruity hop. Modest bitterness. Light bodied but not watery. Quite good.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2021 Golden color, fine foam. Nose. The malt, a pleasant herbaceous hops slightly flowery, is reminiscent of the Helles. Taste. Malty, hoppy, an attempt to go into sweetness. Dry, hoppy aftertaste. What can you say, it's nice, good, but I would choose more phenolic .

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2021 일반적으로 가장 흔하게 볼 수 있는 황금빛 매우 투명한 외관에 거친 헤드와 점성없이 콸콸 따라져나오는 맥주를 보고 있자니 아 라거구나 싶고 맛을 보면 시원+청량+쌉쌀한것이 그 중에서도 필스너 스타일인가?라고 생각할 수 있는데 사실 쾰쉬는 상면발효 맥주인 에일이에요. 에일 효모를 발효통에다가 넣고서 20도 내외의 상온에서 발효시키지않고 10도 이하의 저온에서 숙성시키는 하이브리드 맥주로서 라거의 개성을 70%정도, 에일의 개성을 30% 정도 가졌다랄까요. 코를 대보면 가장 먼저 맥아와 효모가 만들어낸 꿀향에 스파이시한 풀향을 느낄 수 있으며, 한 입 가득 입에 담아보면 풋사과의 싱그러운 맛까지 나네요. 꿀에 사과라면 그럼 대충 꿀사과인건가 싶지만 그정돈 아니고 적절히 기분좋은 쓴맛까지 섬세하고 균형있게 잡혀있습니다. 라이트바디로 목넘김이 편하고 깔끔하고 청량한 뒷맛을 느낄 수 있으며 과일로 말하면 덜익은 허니듀 멜론이랄까요, 물론 이렇게 말하니 테라같기도 한데 홉의 존재감부터 다르긴하죠. 음용감 좋은 산뜻한 라거 스타일이라 퇴근&귀가 후, 샤워만 하고 안주없이 마셔도 맛있지만 가펠 쾰쉬 맥주를 가장 맛있게 마시는 방법은 소맥입니다! 소주를 섞어 마신다는건 아니고 소세지와 맥주를 먹는다는 것인데 우선 쾰른 지역의 랜드마크인 쾰른 성당 사진을 모니터에 띄워두고, 안주로는 독일식 프랑크소세지를 준비하세요(그냥 편의점 제품으로다가..). 이렇게 세팅이 되었다면 방구석 독일여행을 할 준비가 된 것입니다. 가펠쾰쉬를 한 입 크게 마시고서 소세지를 한 입 우겨넣어보면 세상 담백하고 맛있을 수가 없어요. 그 후 다시 맥주로 입을 헹궈보면 캬.. 그렇게 반복하다보면 더 이상 먹을게 없다는걸 알고나서야 사왔던 소세지와 쾰쉬 몇 캔은 모두 뱃속에 들어갔음을 인지할 수 있죠. 전용잔이 없다면 작은 맥주잔에 마셔도 좋습니다! 아쉬운 점이 하나 있다면 전용잔이 없어 튤립 고블렛잔에다 마셨는데 독일 쾰른에서 마시면 직원이 크란츠(Kranz)라고 하는 트레이에 맥주가 담긴 잔을 리볼버 탄약마냥 10잔씩 들고 돌아다닙니다. 그리고선 내가 맥주를 거의 다 마셔갈때 쯤 가까이와서는 새 잔을 앞에 나두고 제갈길가는데, 한 잔에 200ml도 안되는 양이라 원샷이 가능하여 나도 모르게 슈퍼꽐라가 되기 좋은 재밌는 맥주랄까요. 잔이 그렇게나 작은 이유는 쾰슈나 알트비어는 섬세하기에 항상 그 섬세함의 느낄 수 있도록 온도나 거품 상태의 최적점을 맞춰주기 위해서랄까요. 이런 상황을 상상하며 마셔보세요. 이미 우리는 쾰른에 있습니다. 평소 라거를 좋아하는데 무향무미의 드라이 라거들이 아쉽다면 아주 마음에 들 수 있으니 드셔보세요. 다양한 쾰쉬(Kolsch) 중에 한국에서 가장 쉽게 구할 수 있는게 가펠 쾰쉬이며 국내에서 Kolsch style도 아닌 진짜 쾰쉬 맥주를 2500원에 마실 수 있는건 축복이며 편의점 유통은 이마트를 통해 이뤄지는 듯 하네요. 다른곳에선 본적 없습니다. ​

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2021 Pint at Marx Cafe, pours a clear dark gold with a cap of white head. Honey nose, grist, flowers. Flavor is honey and biscuit and orange. Finishes off dry.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2021 I'm in a German restaurant and they served this in a ceramic mug. Short white head. Light grainy nose. Easy drinking beer that complimented dinner. Sweet grains and a bit if lemon citrus in the finish.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2021 Nalewa się jasno złote, przejrzyste, obfita, zbita, trwała piana. W zapachu, lekkie cytrusy, deliaktne,nuty chlebkowe, trochę żelazo. Średnie wysycenie, smukłe. W smaku cytrusy, lekko owocowo-keaskowe, słodowość słabo wyczuwalna, finisz owocowo-chmielowy. Na plus, że lekkie i fajnie pijalne.
