COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Return of the Black Emperor, this time with all NZ hops. Same malt and yeast, but with Southern Cross and NZ Cascade. Drier, a little stronger, but still black and delicious

Black with a moderate, off-white head. Aroma is predominantly dark roasty, coffee malt but with a surprising NZ hop character over the top of this. Flavour is a balance between bitter, fruity hops and smooth dark malt. Full boddied with the slight larger astringency, which is good. Overall a lovely beer.

Dark black in colour with thick toffee coloured head that disapated quickly. Nice chocolate/malty aroma. Hoppy chocolate flavour. Strong coffee bitterness that lingued for ages.

It poured black with a smallish light brown head. The malt characters come through with some molasses and a light breakfast of toasted cereal and coffee. The hops are there, with some perfumey aroma. The zing on the pallet and clean finish help me to understand and endorse the Black Pilsner description.

Go go Golden Ticket! I’ve been lucky enough to have tried the US edition, and both homebrewed and commercial versions of this edition. All were excellent, but I think this is my favourite. Fruity esters, resinous hop oils, and massive tropical fruit notes integrate really well with a full, smoky toffee and roast malt flavour. Love it.

Pours black with a great brown head. Big Chocolaty aroma, backed by subtle citric hops. The flavour has the same chocolaty notes, on a medium body which captures the feel of a pils but has enough to support the big roast malt. A confusing beer style wise, but a great one nonetheless.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2011 Bottle, courtesy of yalnikim. A little black beauty in the glass. I wasn’t prepared for the NZ hop assault on my nostrils. As my nose hairs beat off a retreat. my lips succumbed to drying pleasure of the roasty palate. Though I prefer a little less roast, great take on a schwarzbier, with a NZ hop twist that takes it to a another level.
