COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stout aged for two years in twelve-year Weller bourbon barrels - 2020 Imperial Stout. Back in 2008, Goose Island was lucky to receive 28-year-old wheated bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery. After aging for two years in these rare barrels, that Bourbon County Brand Stout was bottled and became the first vintage of Bourbon County Stout Rare (2010). Release on an iconic day, Black Friday, this set a new precedent in the Bourbon County Stout family of beers, all of which continue to be released on the day after Thanksgiving. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of our Black Friday releases, our brewers teamed up with Buffalo Trace once again for this release. Two years ago, we filled the highly sought-after Weller 12-tear bourbon barrels with Bourbon County Brand Stout and left them to age yet again for a two-year period -- a celebration of tradition and continued collaboration. Weller's wheated mash bill yields some of the world's finest bourbons but it also helps tell the story of the spirit itself. Founder W.L. Weller is credited as the first to use a "wheated" bourbon recipe rather than the traditional rye. He spent a lifetime educating drinkers about his new "softer" and smoother tasting bourbon. Finding a bottle of Weller bourbon is always special but to enjoy a pour of the longer-aged 12-year expression is a true treat. As such, we couldn't be more excited to celebrate this year's anniversary Bourbon County Brand Stout, an equally unique beer layered with those softer notes of wheat and subtle nuances found in Weller 12-year bourbon barrels. Anniversary Bourbon County Stout is aged 2 years in Weller 12 Year barrels and is a special variant this year to celebrate Goose Island’s 10-year tradition of releasing Bourbon County Stout on Black Friday. The Weller brand is one of the most universally loved collections in all of bourbon, with Weller 12 Year being one of the hardest to get and most sought after. Our Original Bourbon County Stout is aged in 4-5 year old barrels for one year, so the added age of these Weller barrels, paired with an extra year of the beer in the barrel, adds stronger barrel flavors and notes of dried dark fruit. Color: Midnight black Hops: Millennium Malts: 2 row, black malt, caramel, chocolate, Munich 10, roasted barley

ctipping (3902) - Florida, USA - JAN 8, 2022
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2022 500 mL bottle. Black body. Smells of very strong toasted oak, bourbon, oak, vanilla, roasted malt. Tastes very clearly of Weller bourbon. Strong toasted oak flavor. Back end is classic Bourbon County. Sweet fudge, heavy toasted malt, hints of soy sauce, but never quite gets there. Heavy and boozy, but very good.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2021 50 cl bottle @ Jyrchi, BBE 08.06.2025 Aroma has bourbon, vanilla and licorice. Flavour has bourbon, liquor, licorice and mild rubbery tones. Too much alcohol and rubbery tones here - just like the Birthday one had.

HarvesterOfSorrow (2863) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - AUG 27, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2021 August 26, 2021 - bottle from Binny's on Black Friday 2020 opened to celebrate another wedding anniversary and poured into a couple Bourbon County snifters (2015 and 2016 editions). Black pour with some tan head that faded quickly, but foams up nicely with a gentle swirl. Aroma was strong bourbon, wood, malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Taste had a nice balanced heat that lasted all the way through. The heat is supplemented with sweetness, dark fruit, chocolate and molasses. Full-bodied, light carbonation, but still very smooth drinking.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2021 Bottle pour courtesy of Chalumeaux in a share--thanks, TJ! It's an opaque black with decent viscosity, no sparkle or head. Aroma is strong bourbon, toffee, chocolate. Taste is bourbon over sweet and roasted malt, chocolate, toffee, oak. Mouthfeel light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, soft carbonation, nice alcohol warmth. Overall, really smooth. Everything in nice balance and great complexity.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2021 Thanks going to Chalumeaux on this share. Aroma is oak, spice, chocolate, toasty. The flavor is just fantastic. Rich Weller 12 year with the BCS base imperial stout. Not even hot considering the ABV. (Not for me anyhow). Awesome mouthfeel. Really great.

fkoolen (3514) - Eindhoven, NETHERLANDS - JUL 8, 2021
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2021 Boxed bottle at home. Pitch black, slim creamy beige head. Sweetish bourbon barrels upfront, quite alcoholic too, lots of dried fruity, vinous tones, chocolate, almost like a barleywine, gets nicely dry and grainy in the end - perfect balance. Big linger. Good body, sticky mouthfeel, low carbonation.
