UPDATED: SEP 28, 2019 22 oz 2012 bottle. Pours nearly pitch black in color with some mahogany at the edges and topped by a small tan layer of foam that fades away to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, cherry, rye spice, and whiskey oak over a dark roasted malt base with some boozy alcohol. The flavor follows suit with notes of dark cherry, chocolate, and rye spice up front and backed up by the dark roasted malt, whiskey soaked oak, and some roasty bitterness on the back end with some lingering warmth. Full bodied and smooth with soft carbonation that leads to a dark chocolate, cherry, roast, and rye whiskey spice on the finish. Really damn good stuff that has held up really well over the years. Really happy I got to try this. Awesome beer.

650 ml bottle at Werckmeisters place, bottled 11.12.2012, shared by Sander, many thanks! Pours a very dark chestnut brown with a beige head. Aroma of sweet cherries, whiskey, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, nuts and some alcohol. Full body with a soft carbonation and, a light to medium sweetness, a light to medium bitterness and a very light acidity. The flavor starts with cherries up front, followed by whiskey, roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, nuts and mild coffee. Becomes more roasted towards the finish. Finishes with a light roasty bitterness, nuts, coffee and some whiskey, some alcohol. Overall with a good balance between the cherries, which are pretty dominant, and the roasted malt. Pretty unique and pretty good.

650 ml bottle, bottled 11/12/12. Shared by Sander, many thanks!
Black body, with a small, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of cherry, chocolate, cocoa, soy sauce, whisky.
Tastes quite similar, but creamier, with more chocolate, booze.
Full, oily mouthfeel, with a carbonation.
Finishes warm, moderate dry, moderate roasty, medium sweet, a bit wooden, with dark chocolate, soy sauce, cherries, slight liquorice.

Very tasty! The cherries work very well, combined with the smooth chocolatey notes. Quite boozy, but not too overpowering, really comfortable. Lovely sipper, comlex and big.

Score: 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 17
