COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Gerbeer (5947) - Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 28, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2021 2021 vintage. 500 ml bottle. Pours black with little head. Aromas of dark caramel, soft bourbon, chocolate nougat, vanilla, and slick roasted malts. Rich flavors follow same with lots of chocolate nougat and nice warming alcohol without being rough.

Strangebrewer (1910) - Chatham, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 7, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2021 bottle 2017. I was lucky enough to receive this as a gift and able to let it age until now. Poured dark opaque brown with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma of sweet dried fruit and vanilla, reminiscent of a fortified wine, I expected more. Full bodied, subtle carbonation, a thick textured mouthfeel with a warming alcohol finish. Flavour is very sweet and woody, notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, molasses, alcohol, and tobacco. A really nice beer, shared amongst 5 people since it's currently $24(Canadian) a bottle😬. I have the 2018 & 2019 aging a few more years.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2021 I poured it from the bottle into a tulip glass. It pours black with a tan head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, wood, and alcohol. The taste is chocolate, coffee, smoke, wood, burnt sugar, and vanilla. This is an excellent sipping beer. There's a slight alcohol burn. It's very smooth considering the alcohol content though. It's tasty.

OnTheTrail (1006) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - DEC 2, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2021 Pours almost black. Good sized medium brown head. Aroma is espresso, chocolate, raisins, figs, pecans. Taste is soft slightly bitter chocolate, lots of dried dark fruit, burnt coffee. Maybe some burnt candy. Nice creamy smooth heavy mouthfeel. Lives up to the hype reasonably well, I guess? Definitely well made beer.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2021 Pours black with a small tan head. Very complex so I’m going to add the description from the bottle. “Notes of vanilla, toffee, chocolate, burnt sugar and dried fruit.” 14% and is still smooth and tastes wonderful.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2021 Great flavors, yet not worth $27 per bottle. I would choose North Coast old Rasputin at $3.

17wojownik (1425) - Krakow, POLAND - AUG 30, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 30, 2021 Na krakowskim Beerweek Festival 06, w 2021 roku, 100 ml przelane z butelki dwoma kielonkami. Hm no potężny stout, pity już na dość zrobieniu. Bardzo mocny, słodki ale nie lepki, w sumie to już wykracza poza kategorie piwne.. Rodzyny i karmel, gęściutkie (zatem bezpianowe i bezwysyceniowe), ładna mieszanka kolorów i feeria barw. No ok, spróbowane, choć powinieniem był to skosztować w lepszych/wcześniejszych okolicznościach.
