UPDATED: MAR 29, 2020 From a cool looking can with jap godzilla on it. Poor is big and black. Smell is dark beer and mild for an IPA. Taste is at first big impact but then it fades into a more malty dark beer attitude. Does have some decent mild creamy co2. In the middle, the IPA is trying to come back and then it does finish with a pretty tuff attitude of bitter dark beer. For this lager lover, its a little better than the typical straight up rude ass black IPA.

kevinsenn (3112) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 30, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2019 The bottle says 'India Pale Ale', so I was super surprised when it poured out black. Very nice aroma of black licorice and oranges. Rich roasty chocolate taste, moving into citrus notes, and finally a big bitter finish with black licorice notes. A great Black IPA, even if I was just expecting a regular IPA.

bierkoning (18836) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - FEB 21, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2019 Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Soft roast and citrus in the aroma. Roasty sweet flavor with citrus and tart notes. Slightly faded hops, but enough legt to make this a nice beer.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with fruity and piney hops, chocolate, tropical notes, grapefruit, coffee, citrus. Flavour is moderate sweet with a firm bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Quite tasty, nicely roasty and hoppy with chocolate, pine, fruits and a solid bitterness.

Backlog entry prior to closing out 2017. Well rounded, as expected. Nothing too unusual.

Strykzone (8457) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - OCT 21, 2017
Sampled at the Big Muddy Beer Fest. Black with minimal amber. A little beige foam. Very earthy. Dark malts. A little roast. Earth. Somewhere underneath is citrus and flowers. This needs more hops. Tasty enough but is short on hops.
Earlier Rating: 10/9/2016 Total Score: 3.6
