flaska 2011. På de Heeren van Lidkrecke med gänget. Rubinröd åt det mörkare hållet. Svagt brunt inslag. 5 mm skum. Funk och bajs. Avsaknad av svartvinbär. Skarp syra med citronvibb. Något bärig men snarast år kriekhållet. Även lite bajs i smaken.

Incredibly sour mellowing out to a long nut and wood finish. Hints of caramel in there too.

From a plastic barrel in the Rake. God that is horrible, stale and one of the worst beers I ’ve tasted. Total doubling over of the body vile. Weird aftertaste Clearly one of the most acidic beers I’ve drunk. Like drinking mould. Aroma is a 6 but every thing else is awful.

Big thanks to magicdave6 for this one. Deep red in the glass, modest turbid. Dusty-dry aroma. Starts fruity like berries, modest sweet. Turns then to an aggressive sourishness that really burns in the aftertaste. Also quite prickly. From time to time there are also some smoky notes. Sourishness is dominating. Very interesting. My favourite of Toms selection!

A Mes rate. Cask at the Rake.
An excellent cloudy blood red colour. Lots of barnyard, pig farm, hay and straw in the aroma. The fruit is restrained but definitely there. The flavour is not quite so brilliant but still very good. Extremely acidic and rather harsh. Not quite as fierce as the Mikkeller Super Sour Kriek I had at the weekend but it’s still a real challenge. Excellent fruit, epic length and just mad as a bag of frogs. The raspberries are probably a little more apparent than the blackcurrents. Really good, it’s just too acidic with nothing to balance it, making it burn too much on the way down and take away from the excellent flavours.

Gravity cask at the Rake. Flat, but with an attractive ribina hue. Aroma of musty under ripe berry fruits. Shockingly sour to a point of acidity, suggesting more raspberries and rhubarb rather than blackcurrants. Maybe this wrecked my palette but all the other lambics that I sampled subsequently, tasted rather tame! I kept returning to this little beauty and ended up finishing the evening off with a pint of it. It’s a very difficult drink to rate: certainly not a great deal of finesse but heaps of attitude. I would be intrigued to experiment with this beer in the kitchen, perhaps even using it to make a sorbet. My rating reflects how keen I would be to obtain it again rather than the beer’s technical merits. Many thanks to Tom for assembling and hosting what was probably the finest exhibition of lamic beers ever held outside Belgium.

Cask @ The Rake. Deep purple in colour. Aroma has lots of acidity, nice and smelly. Palate is inbeleivably sour, very acidic, with only subtle notes of blackberry. Very sour, very very sour. Which, probably took away from the flavour. A toned down sourness was probably needed i think, but still pretty tasty.

Cask in The Rake. Aroma is big fruity acidity, blackcurrent is subtle, the raspberries come through far stronger, good amoutn of funk. Taste is massive, its easily the most acidic drink iv ever had, infact id recommend blending it with some straight lambic to take the harshness off it, its first fruit then nearly burnign acidity, dry face twisting finish. Hats off to Bob who drank 2 1/2 pints of the stuff!
