COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The original German Oktoberfest was brewed with one celebratory festival in mind. Harpoon Octoberfest is brewed with TWO festivals in mind; our Octoberfests at our breweries in Boston, MA and Windsor, VT. We love the style and it’s a great beer for the fall season. In true Octoberfest tradition, we threw our first festival here at the brewery in 1990. There were a couple thousand people here celebrating amidst the brewing tanks. We can’t quite fit everyone in the actual brewery now – last year nearly 18,000 revelers attended our Boston Octoberfest and nearly 7,000 joined us at our brewery in Vermont the following weekend. Prost!

Description
Harpoon Octoberfest is a malty tribute to fall, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness. In keeping with tradition, it is a Marzen-style beer, brewed with abundant quantities of Munich, Chocolate, and Pale malts. Those malts provide a solid, full body and create the beer’s deep color. It is a rich, flavorful beer.

I poured it from the bottle into a dimpled mug. It pours a dark amber with a fluffy, off-white head and lacing. The aroma is earthy, caramel, and biscuit. The taste is caramel, biscuit, honey, and tea. It's smooth. There's a subtle sweetness and an earthy bitterness. This is an above average version of this style.

Tried a few different Oktoberfests this season, and although this didn't stand up to my favorite (Samuel Adams)...it was solid for what it is. The balance isn't quite there, as the background is the lagery Harpoon beer which is nothing special to me. But, there are some nice caramel flavors and spice in there. Also has a slight creamy texture to the mouthfeel. A slightly above average brew.

12 oz. bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Clear and coppery with some being head. Nice lacing falls down the glass. Aroma is malty and a bit earthy. Flavor is floral with gentle fruit. Caramel malts. No Fall spices noted. A bit of soap and zest. Pretty good for what it is.

Pours a clear copper with a frothy white head. Nose is a little caramel and European hops with a touch of clove. Flavor is sweet at first but quickly dissapates to a sticky but bland finish. Very light bodied. Very typical marzen.
