COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gouden Carolus Ambrio is aromatically brewed according to the ancient recipe of the Mechelschen Bruynen. Ambrio is an ’amber’ ale brewed with ’brio’. This white beer of high fermentation finds its origin in the traditional beer of the city of Mechelen. As each city had its own typical beer, the Mechelenians drunk their amber beer: "Mechelschen Bruynen" for hundreds of years. Our brewery is the only brewery that still brews this type of beer. According to the tradition the basic recipe of this beer dates from 1421 and is therefore the oldest beer from the brewery. The current version is slightly heavier than the original and finer hopped. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical aromas with herbs ensure that this beer combines the whole-hearted nature of brown beers with the freshness of blonde beers. This flavored and spicy light brown tasting beer should be served fairly fresh. Refermentation in the bottle.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2021 30.5.2021: 330 ml bottle at home, 8% ABV, bb. 21.10.2022, bought at La Mise En Biere, Lausanne. Pours a clear dark copper with a white head and some residue at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is lightly yeasty, medium malty and lightly hoppy with honey, caramel, brown sugar, light fruity notes, pear, some apples, light spicy notes and hay. Medium to medium-full body with a lively carbonation, a medium sweetness and a light to medium bitterness. The flavor starts with sweet malt, honey, brown sugar, caramel, some raisins, prunes, dried apples and a light medicinal touch. Finishes with a light to medium hoppy bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2021 bottiglia 33 cl, bel cappello di schiuma beige fine persistente, color ambrato carico velato, al naso lieviti belgi miele zucchero di canna, in bocca frutta matura uvetta sotto spirito spezie frutta secca, carbonazione forte che la rende molto bevibile e bilanciata, corpo medio, alcool perfettamente bilanciato, dolce con amaro moderato, secca nel finale. Una birra scorrevolissima e mooolto pericolosa da bere. Ottima. c. Cantina della birra 16.04.21
