COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Farmstead wheat ale aged in oak barrels with satsuma mandarins. Flora is the wine barrel aged version of Florence (1915-1967), our grandfather’s sister as well as the name of our wheat farmhouse ale. In her honor, amidst the fleeting days of summer, we chose to fill French oak wine barrels with Florence and store it away. After many months, a Biere de Table emerged. At the end of a summer day, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Florence.

*10/2/2013 375ml bottle poured in a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass. A~ beautifully vibrant light orange with hardly no head and no lacing at all. S~ bready, peppery saison yeast up front. followed by a little wheat and a lot of citrus barnyard funky goodness! T~ the sourest mandarin/orange ever! like someone injected a mandarin with wild yeast and let it ferment for 10 years haha. other than that it pretty much follows the nose, not much wheat present though. i guess the overwhelming funk conquers here and theres nothing wrong with that once so ever. wow! M~ very well carbonated, not what you would have thought from the look of things. that seems to be a reoccurring thing with the most recent HF releases. pineapple like texture, somewhat like Juicy. very refreshing and crazy drinkable of course. O~ absolutely amazing and mind blowing even with high HF expectations. the only thing that surprises me is the gravity. i wonder how long this fermented? not complaining one bit though, if anything it shows total control! balance for days and all around delicious. this is up there with Juicy and Mimosa!

May 2016. Thanks, Moll! Still a sizable fruit presence. Light and dry, lingering pithiness. Touch of acidity through the finish.

375 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 10/16/2013. Pale yellow with a slight haze. Small white head. Lemony aroma. White wine. Citrus. Mild citrus, but its there. A little acidic. Lemony tartness in the flavor as well. White white follows. Some oak. Minimal grain. Citrus takes over. It’s not super strong, but it’s enough to dominate the finish. Light and crisp. Nice tartness. Medium carbonation. Tasty. Flora is simple enough that it won’t suffer from fruit, but part of me likes how simple Flora is without the fruit.

Bottle @ Steve_0’s HF party. Thanks André! Pours a clear golden yellow appearance with a white head. Light white wine, citrus, lemon, funk, vanilla, and a bit of BO. Some acidity. Medium light body. Dry with light bitterness. Pretty juicy, lemon lime soda flavor. Lightly tart. A little bit of apple. Kind of fun.

375 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a fluffy white head. The aroma is dry with a moderate funk, yeast, vinous white wine, orange citrus, some acidity, pepper and earthy tones. The flavor has dry grass, orange citrus, white wine, yeast, pepper, and very tasty. Would like to have this again sometime, solid.

Hazy golden dark yellow pour with no head. Really nice nose. Flora plus some funky tart citrus. Dusty Brett and lemon zest lead to a musty floral end. Neat. Low carb and lemony tartness to start. Palate is malty sweet to a tart end. Taste is a fantastic version of flora. Musty, sweet, floral, lemony Flora-y goodness. Bretts are strong in this one. A fantastic version of Flora a.

Bottle pours a deep golden color, small off-white head, nice spotty lacing. Aromas of wheat, wet oak, light citrus, must and hay. Taste is much lighter than expected. Light hints of the mandarin oranges do permeate...minimal tartness....more of a wine barrel inflection over a some light funk. All very delicate and subtle. Finishes a bit thin, but has a nice semi-dry wine character. Tasty stuff.
