COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anbai literally means “Salty Plum” and the word is also used to describe the stat of taste and flavor. Ii Anbai means “just right”!

Hitachino Nest Anbai Ale is brewed based on the high alcohol version (7%) of the siganture beer Hitachino Nest White Ale, infused with locally grown green sour plum (ume), and finished up with a pinch of Japanese sea salt (moshio). The balance of sourness, bitterness, comes from the plum and subtle saltiness, great umami taste of the sea salt is “Ii Anbai - just right!”

ianwelby (3105) - Hamilton, SCOTLAND - SEP 4, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2021 Hazy golden beer, white head. Slightly tart fruity aroma. Flavour is sharp, tangy fruit. A bit of a wine quality to it. Pretty decent.

Cheeseboard (2971) - Somerset, ENGLAND - AUG 4, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2021 33ml bottle, online from Trembling Madness. Pours clear dark gold towards amber with a beige head. Aroma: sour tropical fruits, orange, yogurt. Taste: tart tropical fruits, lychee, under ripened mango & plum. Nice bash of salt on the finish. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Not sure the style classification is correct here, it's a fruited gose, surely

caribou43 (2456) - Lausanne, SWITZERLAND - MAR 14, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2021 This bottle is coming from Amstein, St-Légier, opening it yesterday, at home, Epalinges, bad weather, comfortable beverage with our own hamburgers. The body is orange, grey and troubled, sparkling carbonation, white foam. Interesting product and a brewery that I had sometimes good and bad surprise, this one was tasty and pleasant, a lovely union of sourness and peach with something a bit strange at the final like herbal and creamy notes, dry malt and others cereals, hop, fruity, aromatic.

17Beer (1621) - Weston, Connecticut, USA - MAR 11, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2021 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a thin white head quickly gone. Gose-like salty smells with some sweetness underneath. Plums and salt over malt with a really great lingering sour finish. Fizzy mouthfeel and medium bodied. Very distinctive and drinkable. I like it.

LagerGuide122 (803) - - FEB 7, 2021
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2021 330ml bottle brewed in Japan at 7.5%. Hazy green-gold with a neat, OK-duration head. Lightly tart black cherry aromas on top of a compact bed of wheat rusk. Light savoury salt kicks in at the end, developing in the aftertaste, on top of almost toasty barley and thin wheat malt. Complex plum flavour, a little sour, but rich and sweet too, green yet fruity. Swirl and pour the whole bottle out to get those complex yeast notes tying it all together. Really brings out the jammy/marmite vibes. On the other hand, you might prefer the lighter version sans sediment. Definitely an unorthodox witbier derivative, but if you're looking for a taste of Japan, this delivers very strongly. Great with some sashimi. Could make a good introduction to sour/fruit/gose style beers too, seeing as it has plenty going on but nothing too OTT.

Erzengel (13589) - Saarland & Düsseldorf, GERMANY - JAN 19, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2021 Smooth fruity sourish beginning. Easy to drink, fruity with a nice sour plum finish. Mild sour with hints of salt, nice grainy wheaty back, smooth sour and refreshing in the end. Nice.

DraftDodger (5615) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JAN 10, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2021 Copenhagen 10/1 2021. 33 cl bottle from Kvickly, Østergade, Middelfart. Hitachino's little red owl in a flower field with green background on the label. Pours opaque, hazy, golden orange with a small white head. A lot of segments floating around. Settles as thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a light sweetish, fruity odor mingling with sour notes. Subtle salty presence. Plums and peach. Sour berries and green apples. Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, tingling, lively texture. Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed buy strong sourness with a boozy edge. Aftertaste is sour with a strong salty undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is salty with a touch of alcohol. Interesting Japanese version of a Gose with a salty intensity and a bit of alcohol.
