Pour @ Hogshead, Denver. Deep brown pour with a tan head. Toasty nose with some mild presence of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Light yeastiness, some baked red apple. Earthy / soil-like character plays well with some peppered chocolate. Baked brown bread. Full mouthfeel. Fine carb. Very solid gear.

20 oz cask pour at the brewery. Hogshead never ceases to impress me. I haven't had a lot of truly British milds, but I never like them. I discovered a few American takes on the style that were pretty good, but now thanks to Hogshead I've had a truly great mild ale. This is a dark and creamy beer with perfect head formation. They've completely mastered cask beer. Very sturdy malty body with flavors of wood, leather, soil, and piney/cedary hop notes pop out for balance. It's impressive how full and rich the maltiness is for a beer of this abv. Each sip continues to be bready and meaty. Excellently clean and malty beer.

The aroma is dominated by dark chocolate, with some licorice, pumpernickel, and rye. Sweet and malty, with just a bit of roasted bitterness that balances nicely. Light to medium body, creamy, velvety, and malty. This is an easy and flavorful mild. Smooth, balanced flavor, and a luxurious mouthfeel.

Similar flavor, complex and tasty with some light chocolate notes in the back. Light, creamy, smooth and soft on the palate. A top notch mild ale overall.
