Introducing THE FIEND, our Australian IPA and part one of our nation-based IPA series. THE FIEND – noun. “someone who craves a certain substance.” Various fiends exist out there – the tweaker, the junkie, the pothead. We all know one. We’ve been called FIENDS too. Obsessed with getting our grubby mitts on the best Australian hops we can find and with an unshakable thirst for good, solid brews. We’re stoked to be sharing our fix with you. BEER PROFILE: Using all Australian grown hops, we have created a sessionable, IPA-style beer with fresh hop aroma and a crisp palate.

It wears a strong mustiness like a winter coat, concealing it’s contents. There could be three children in that trench coat, pretending to be one adult. We will never know. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the Alehouse Project, Melbourne. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, grassy woody, light resin hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a light, crisp, malt, dry pepper spice, light metallic, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Pretty straightforward beer this one. A bit hoppy as the name suggests. Pleasant aftertaste; missing a bit of punch. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2017 Pours from the bottle a golden amber with a quickly vanishing head. Aroma is pleasant tropical notes of pineapple cut with grapefruit. Mild resiny bitterness with thin tropical flavours and slight spice. Effervescent carbonation results in a beer that is certainly enjoyable but doesn’t stand out particularly.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2017 Great taste, fruity hops and nice smooth sweetness. Only a very mild aroma however, and a little but thin in the mouth. More of a pale or XPA than an IPA. But easy to drink, sessionable and crowd pleasing.

Bottle 330ml. Hazy, dark-golden colour. White, frothy head. Poor lacing. Aroma is poor, delicate hoppy, fruity, malty but nothing special. Malty with low bitterness in taste. Light and drinkable but that is all about this beer and additionally beer seems to be old because there is bad note in aroma like from hospital so the rating could be undervalued.

Exploding all over the bench foam. After that a orange colour sweet expected APA. Not an IPA and not sure what an Australian IPA is? All confusing, but a nice beer.

Poured a hazy orangey-amber with a one- to two-finger off-white frothy head that retained well but laced poorly. Carbonation low, average and coarse. Aroma of citrus/grapefruit, pine and hints of tropical fruits with low to moderate intensity. taste has lots of fruit with moderate to strong grapefruit bitterness; lots of hops but fades quickly. Light body. Crisp and dry with moderate bitterness on a moderate length finish.

A little watery in taste. More akin to a pale ale than IPA. Some peppery notes in the aftertaste. There’s subtle citrus favours like grape and passionfruit
