alobar (5116) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2022

UPDATED: APR 25, 2021 Can pour from Total Wine & More, Danvers. It's a murky, opaque reddish-orange dark brown with no sparkle, thin fizzy cap of khaki head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee. Taste is roasted coffee (subtler than the aroma), earthy roasted malts and bit of dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, average carbonation and crisp, finish with lingering roasty bitterness. Overall, aroma is strong but one dimensional. Taste is fairly subtle and the look and feel need to be reworked. Not terrible but disappointing for a coffee porter.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2021 16-ounce can pours dark brown with chestnut highlights and a 2' bubbly tan head and lots of carbonation clinging to glass and rising, making it look like root beer. Aroma: brown sugar, coffee. Flavor: coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, burnt toast, black pepper. Mouthfeel: light-bodied with a slightly creamy finish, yet a bit thin for a porter.

jimhilt (2732) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - APR 29, 2018
UPDATED: APR 29, 2018 Pours a one finger khaki head, that fades slowly leaving traces of lace. Black color, no highlights. Strong carbonation and light-medium bodied. Coffee nose and taste follows - roasted coffee, thin. Not worth $4.45 for a 16oz black can from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

Can, thanks to Ed. Pours out a darker cola color with a small white head. Aroma is of lots of espresso, dark roast coffee, light sweetness. Aroma is much better than the taste,, flavor is of lighter coffee and espresso, roast, light cream, some mild sweetness.

Tallboy can shared by Ed. Poured a medium density deep dark brown almost black under a smaller foamy beige head. Aroma/flavor is coffee, dark donuts, burmt popcorn, burnt toast, dark choclate, loads of sugar. Medium to thinner body with barely any carbonation.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2017 So, I walk into a bar and a guy sez to me, ’I hear you’re reviewing craft beers on ratebeer.’ and I reply, ’What’s it to ya, bub?’ and he sez, ’What the hell am I supposed to make of a craft beer review posted on a site owned by Budweiser?’ I had nuttin’ to say at that point, but the more I thought about it, the more I cried into my beer. Sad.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a nice looking black pour with some red hues about the glass. Finger’s worth of eggshell white foaminess. Some light lace sliding into the beer. The aroma consists of fairly thick milk chocolate sweetness with some sweet espresso beans, then just a touch of vanilla. Finishes with a crisp roastiness. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side blending the milk chocolate to the espresso, nicely done. Wet sweet sort of chocolatey aftertaste running into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fabulous sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, nicely done sweet porter well worthy of having again.

Bomber into snifter. Vigorous dark brown head quickly dissipates to thin ring. Nose of sweetened coffee concentrate, condensed milk, maybe a bit of vanilla. Not much going on in the mouth, rather thin, a bit of gas station coffee flavor if I concentrate. Some lingering coffee-ish aftertaste. After thinking about it, the nose and aftertaste remind me of SToK caffeine shots I keep in my car when I’m desperate for a shot of caffeine. That’s not a good thing. I served straight out of the refrigerator since the label instructed to serve cold, maybe something else might come out if it warms up? As it is now, uninspired.
