COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A special blend of malted barley - lightly to darkly roasted - creates layers of toasty sweetness, balanced by the citrusy notes of Cascade hops. Burnt orange with a laid back finish, this is the beer of Austin.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2021 Heyooo Austin Amber the 'beer of Austin' alrighty then guise let's see. Slightly hazy...uh...what's that color called? I think it's sort of like that petrified sap the mosquitoes were in in 'Jurassic Park' or the name and coincidentally the hair color of a girl I once knew from rural Pennsylvania who had hair the color of fossilized resin. W'ain't she a beaut? I think the German name for it is 'bernstein' or 'Berenstain bears' or something. Oh well we'll never know what that thing is. Suffice to say this is like a slightly browner copper ale. Small white head. Aroma is toast, caramel, nuts. Medium sweet flavor, toasty and caramel, light bitterness. Medium light feel, reasonably crisp. Ehh

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2021 Can of 'Oklahoma Suks' which on Ratebeer redirects to this Austin Amber ale. Something isn't right as Oklahoma Suks is pale yellow and does not feature any Cascade hop qualities. This is light, semi sweet with a very pleasant pilsner malt flavor. Hopping is low and seems to be of a European variety. Very faint whispers of fruit, perhaps a yeast expression, are hinted at in the finish. Hints of cereal linger. Gets the job done. Cleanly produced.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2020 On tap at Shake Shack in Austin, TX. Aroma is floral malts, maybe some honey, mild roast malts. Taste is floral sweetness, fruity malts. Pretty decent Amber Ale (which is rare)

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2020 This is their Oklahoma Suks beer. It's a pale lager, not a red ale. 12 oz. can purchased at Total Wine - The Rim, San Antonio, TX. Pours a crystal clear very light yellow color with a white head and good retention. Almost no lacing. Grainy aroma. Sweet corn grain and malt flavor. No bitterness. Crisp mouthfeel. Clean and smooth finish. Light, watery body. Much better than I feared based on the pour. Generic, but actually pretty enjoyable.

This was about average. Mild aromas and flavors of caramel malt a bitter finish that is slightly unbalanced.

On tap at Independence, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt and a touch of resins. Flavour is nicely balanced, with toasted bready malt and a touch of resins. Mild but robust enough for the purpose. Solid.

beer_rookie (1102) - Arkansas, USA - AUG 7, 2017
Pours a clear copper color. About two fingers beige head. Head is fluffy and thick. Light retention, no lacing.

Aroma is wheat bread crust. Toffee. Roasted malt.

Taste is sweet, toffee. Stale bread.

Mouthfeel is medium light body. Too carbonated. It’s drinkable, but barely.

Overall, I don’t really like it. I finished it. I wouldn’t buy it again. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Bottle at the Continental Club in Austin while listening to James McMurtry. Pours clear, brownish red with a white froth on top. The nose holds leaves, toasty grains. Light to medium sweet flavour with more grainy malts, some dried berries, leafy hops, earth. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. More of the same in the finish - leafy bitterness, toasted grains. So so overall.
