So this was about an average IPA. Has the traditional hop flavor (not citrusy) but isn't real aggressive or different. A standard IPA.

On tap to pint. Pours straw gold, white foamy head. Aroma of lemon zest, pine, grapefruit and caramel malts. Taste is the same. Dry finish.

The hops are not very ’in your face’ but they work well with the subtle citrus notes. Malts are strong but they provide a great balance to make a very drinkable IPA.

Fresh growler from the brewery. Awesome clarity. Not a strong aroma. Sweet malts with bitter straw-like hops that linger. The hops seem a bit one dimensional here, I’ve come to expect more from craft IPA’s. The good news is it’s very drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 Good IPA, on tap at the los angeles beer fest, hops, citrus, pines, golden pour with white head, grapefruit smell, some caramel mixed in, sweet.

brokensail (18691) - Bay Area, California, USA - DEC 31, 2012
Orange colored pour with a white head. Just a terrible nose, particularly for an IPA. Cardboard, sawdust, lemon peel, straw, and grass. A bit of pine and fruit, some sweet malt, and a strong spice character. Tastes just as bad as it smells. Cardboard and sawdust flavors are strong, a bit of pine bitterness, heavy spice notes, and lots of grass. Mild malt sweetness of caramel and bread.

Tap at the brewery. Pours a chill hazed orange, sparkling carbonation. Weak, white head. Nose is very perfume heavy with lavender, rose, and dusty sage and white pepper. Taste is mega dry and herbal with very bitter nut shells and paper. Palate is ultra dry and bitter coming across as acrid, papery, almost lacerative. More of a saison profile but way too much boil hops and overattenuated. Strange beer, certainly not an IPA.

[Draft @ brewery] Lightly hazed amber appearance, sweet pineapple aroma. Hoppy spiced palate, sweet lemony flavor, slight cardboard - just seemed a little off.

Light golden in color. Kind of cloudy. I can definitely taste the different kind of hops, I believe it’s called citru hops....??? That hops is what gives it a little bit of the grapefruit flavor. A pretty decent IPA
