UPDATED: AUG 19, 2021 Bottle shared on the bus during RBWG 2015. Pours clear amber with a foamy, off-white head. Rich and malty, some light smokey notes, heavy bread, toasted grains, alcohol. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish, moderately sweet. Enjoyable.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2020 Bottled. A red beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and straw, leading to a bitter finish.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2018 Lovely dark brown pour w/ a tan head & good lacing. The aroma is centered around semi sweet malt. The flavor is pretty standard bw. Good amount of malt upfront & finishes w/ some bitterness. Really Straight forward w/ the alcohol hidden well. Really nice overall!

Cheers to Ian for this. Pours dark brown with a hint of red and small white wisp but low carbonation. Aroma is sweet barley, malt, raisin and plum. Taste is a little alcohol, sweet barley malt touch of raisin and plum. Great beer.

Color is like dark plum with the red, purple and black colors. Last pour yields a lot of sediment, so it gets real murky and plum brown. Dried fruits like dates, nuts, booze, grassy and caramel sugars. English style for sure. Nothing wrong and well constructed, but not real exciting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375 ml bottle, got a bit of age on it. Pours clear reddish hazel, small off-white head, some lacing. Aroma is dark sugars, roasty malt, some cherry, toasted caramel. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light plus bitter, kind of rich. English style BW for sure. Medium body. Decent.

Another 37.5CL from AFH. Thanks dude!!! split 4 ways at around cellar temp. no head. looks like raisin juice. smells nice. Old but certainly has the vanilla, raisin, brown sugar. Very thin on the carb, dense and oily. coats the tongue well. old mango, old apple, loads of brown sugar, a little bit of latex. would have liked to have a year prior.

375 ml Bottle from a trade. 2014 vintage. Murky brown in color. Weak carbonation level. Aroma of caramel, English toffee, raisins, sugar covered figs.

The flavor is right on... Tons of dark fruit, rich caramel, bitterness is shown stronger than I thought it would be at this age. Good balance, medium plus body.

12.7oz capped bottle. Vintage 2014. Shared by beerbeggar. Surprisingly not old or big. It’s not astringent, it’s not "big" or anything bad. But it’s also not particularly anything, a barleywine with a little age but not offputting. Just doesn’t stand out but nothing bad. Dark amber brown color.

Maxbier (1002) - Maryland, USA - NOV 5, 2016
Bottle from brewery. Medium brown pour with light molasses aroma. Dry molasses toffee with boozy middle and finish. Some bitterness too. Vanilla and some hints of Peaty smokiness. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
