COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Collaboration beer with Evil Twin Brewing
This beer was brewed as a collaboration between Jack’s Abby and Evil Twin Brewing. This black lager blends various roasted and dark crystal malts. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and a subtle nuttiness dominate this sweet full bodied lager. Brown malt and chocolate wheat malt were specially sourced for this beer from Valley Malt. Enjoy!

Bottle at home in CT. Pours rich, clear cola-brown with a dense, frothy beige head. Lots of toasted caramel on the nose, some simple chocolate, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with hearty chocolates malts, creamy caramel, burnt toast, raisins. Medium bodied with average carbonation and velvety texture. Finishes sweet but still pretty well balanced, with slight scorched earth bitterness, lots of milk chocolate, berries, raisins. Very nice beer.

Draught at Deep Ellum Winter ’13-’14
Clear ebony with lighter mahogany hues on the edges and a light beige head that is well-retained.
Toasty, not overly roasty malt notes in the nose are backed by juicy, grass-like hop notes and light citrus. Coffee notes are light but mix with the caramel to give further complexity. No alcohol or flaws.
Somewhat sweet and simple, to sum it up. Creamy-sweet vanilla and caramel are met with very light roasted notes and a touch of sourdough. Hops are minimal, adding lightly fruity bitterness (oranges, various citrus, leafy green notes). Chewy, full-bodied texture and while all this malt and body is intentional, I’d much rather have a more dry Kostritzer or the like.

Bottle: Thanks, Alex. Deep brown edges with a fully black center, the khaki layer of foam is quickly reduced to a moderately chunky collar. Dark malt aroma with notes of burnt caramel, milky cocoa nibs, cream, sweet molasses, a touch of anise, some vague nuttiness, & just a hint of roast. Slightly watery body with a lightly roasted malt profile. Some Blackstrap molasses, nuts, over caramelized sugars, dark chocolate, & a mild essence of sweet cream playing for balance underneath. Semisweet mid-palate, though it ends relatively dry & a little roasty. Another good brew from Jack’s Abby.

A pretty above average Schwartzbier, lots of toasty buttery notes, not in bad way either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

What a hard style to find by north Florida ways, and yet what a pleasant example. We greatly enjoyed this one and I although I have tried many of the higher rated beers of this style over the years, it was a joy to drink and recall the style characteristics. Smooth dark pour and wonderful scents of mild chocolate aroma with bits of roastiness. And beautiful dark head accompanying a semi-bitter sweet first tastes and the smooth light palate of the lager. This is my new favorite brewery for their variety on the lager side, when I can get I will snatch it up with abandon. Thanks Jack & Abbey ;o)

Poured from a 500ml bottle. Roasted malts are the first thing that I notice, then there is a rich chocolate nutty note. A tasty beer.

Marheb (6366) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 27, 2014
Chocolat au lait, caramel sur fond d’anis. Le corps a une certaine structure, une complexité de malts rôtis avec une infusion aérienne qui rend le liquide difficile à ne pas boire.
