ALLOVATE (3645) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 26, 2021UPDATED: AUG 26, 2021 Into an Oktoberfest dimple at just on chilled. Honey hued and not quite bright in the glass. Deep, rich amber body and shimmering in the lights. Compact, tight off-white crown dons it weaving a messy lace. Nutty, dried fruit and umami nose hinting at a fresh roasted trail mix and toffee brittle. On the palate it is a collection of the nose amplified. Deliciously malty; melanoidins on high. Light smoke, burnt wood, red wood, roasted nuts with toffee flourishing. A mix of hop and malt on the finish offering a subtle bitterness. Lengthy, nutty and granola-like malty swallow. Aftertaste of smoky malt and burnt caramel. Body is medium-light and the carbonation gives it a soft feel with only mild spritz upfront. Absolutely a harmonious and well crafted lager. Sessionable and contemplative. A delight!!! (16fl.Oz, PKD 02/03/2021, Cellarbrations Lynwood)
ClarkVV (9063) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 27, 2021UPDATED: JUL 27, 2021 Draught at Rail Trail Flatbread, 7/24/21.
Light amber-to-copper-golden, good clarity. Off-white head atop is small and shows moderate-to-low retention.
Nose is bready and caramelly and with very minimal hops. Maybe a bit of herbal/earthiness at best. But it's clean and the malt is mostly filled by the base malt without an overabundance of specialty (vienna) malt. No alcohol or flaw.
Soft, malty and well-attenuated with a bit of toastiness on the finish and plenty of breadiness through the middle. Honey, cream and lightly earthy hops also enter the mix with engaging carbonation and no alcohol or flaw. Yep, it's a Vienna.
