thegreenrooster (6180) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 25, 2015Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a really nice oak and bourbon with some sweet molasses in there. Flavor is a nice almost leather tannin with more of the oak and bourbon. Finish is very earthy and a rich molasses. There are some crappy ratings for this beer but I thought it was extremely flavorful with oak and bourbon and it hides the alcohol well. I don’t smoke cigars much anymore but this would be the perfect cigar beer.
slowrunner77 (19086) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 30, 2014"bought at total wine having no idea what to expect. had a few sips before i looked it up here and went and scared myself. kinda surprised to see imperial stout - the impression i get is strong brown ale. a little boozy, but still a little thin. a hint of bourbon specific booziness in the aroma and flavor (a little more in the aftertaste). maybe a cheaper bourbon? i love me some bourbon stouts and this doesn’t hold up terribly well in either class. not entirely bad, though. just not up to par with other bb impy stouts, and a little oversweet. woulda made a better impression in a taster, but by the end of a full glass, i was done."
evilhomer3k (5) - Iowa, USA - JUL 1, 2014 does not count Poured very dark with virtually no head. Notes of caramel, chocolate, malt, vanilla. Has a very pleasant aroma. Very little carbonation and a thin body. Not much bourbon flavor (which I don’t care for) but a long, sweet aftertaste with some mild bitterness. Overall a good but not great beer that could use a bit more carbonation.
koleminer20 (4594) - Wayne, Michigan, USA - JUN 25, 201412 oz bottle. The pour is a darker brown with a lot of ruby in and around it with a thinner light tan head that fades down quickly to just a ring. The aroma is quite complex and good. Initially there is a strong sweet maltiness. Almost like a really sugary caramel. The deeper it gets, the lore of a earthy wood comes up, and ever-so-slowly the bourbon rolls into the picture. The flavor is surprisingly light. It's pretty malt dominated with a nice sweetness, but the bourbon definitely fails compared to the oakiness. The mouth feel is really thin with not much help by carbonation. The aftertaste is lingeringly sweet with a light woody flavor

Blairgus (4698) - California, USA - JUN 2, 20142 June 2014, bottle. black. nose is dark chocolate, some alcohol, some raisins, bitter chocolate. thin/med body and fizzy. grass/pine hops, sugary bread, dark chocolate, moderate alcohol, burnt and bitter chocolate and pine hop finish.
AmericanHobo (70) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 29, 2014Wonderful oak roasted malt aroma on initial pour. Flavor of bourbon oak spirals comes through on every sip but unlike bourbon not really hot, more mellow and smoothing taste of the ale balancing out the roasted malt. A great session beer. Gets more robust and complex as it warms a bit and is exposed to the air.
hotstuff (5394) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 28, 2014Rated on 01-30-2012. This bottled beer has a medium sized semi-fizzy tan hed with a short retention, opaque dark brown body, very little carbonation observed, and one ring of lacing. This beer’s aroma is caramel malt, chocolate, roasty, oak, hops, suggestion of dark fruits, vanilla, and bourbon. The flavor is semi-sweet, vanilla, malt, roasty, oak, and bourbon. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and thin. This beer is medium bodied. This is a quaffable sipping beer with a good flavor that is worth trying. This is a beer I would drink again.
