Opaque dark brown beer, tiny tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, a bit thin, very mild dark chocolate. The Aquivit barrelling does not sit entirely easily here. It brings a pleasant fruity liqueur vibe but there are odd side tastes here and there. Touches of something vaguely gluey and odd esters. Light and fairly dry finish imparts some alcohol spice. A very mixed bag.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2020 Bottle, backlog from 2018. Nail polish and acetaldehyde throughout, with notes of green apple and glue. Massive, creamy, chocolatey body, creamy mouthfeel, biscuits, subtle vanilla. Would be awesome, albeit it is ruined by major flaws and rendered undrinkable.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2019 Black beer, beige head, aroma is apples, aquavit, fruity, loght wood, juniper, taste is the same, alcohol, sweet, sticky, molasses, alcohol warmth, light bitter, aquavit in the end with juniper. Very good

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2019 Rocky light caramel coloured head left a lacey cover on a jet black still body. Big aroma of Aquvit (I've had a bottle from Linnie - a Scandanavian spirit brewed with potatie & grain - beautiful!) malt & vegatal. Medium bodied, tingly over the tongue, greasy & cloying with a sticky aft. Vegetable, spices, malt, demerara, pepper, aniseed & herbal tastes. 355/

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2019 Bottle @ Drinkers Pub. Pitch black, foamy beige head. Roasted malty coffee, cacao, dry gin-like barrel stuff, boozy, soapy. Cream mouthfeel, good body, medium carbo.

Bottle at Scottish office tasting September 2018... Deep brown black... Thin tan lacing... Soft sweet chocolate roast malts nose .. Heavy malts... Soft odd spirit.. But there again not had Aquavit.. Rich cheewwy chocolate.. Soft boozy finish

Kolor: ciemno brunatny, lekko zamglony.
Piana: niezbyt obfita, drobno i średnio pęcherzykowa, w miarę trwała.
Zapach: wyraźne aromaty, beczki, drewna, aromatu stoutu na dalszym planie, czekolada, praliny, kakao, alkohol delikatny, dobrze komponuje się z całością.
Smak: średnia pełnia, trochę słodyczy, wyraźne nuty, drewna, beczki, trochę nut słodowych, kakao, czekolady, średnia goryczka, dość wyraźny alkohol, poza beczką dość puste.
Wysycenie: w kierunku średniego.

Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, caraway, aquavit, wood - smoke, light to moderate roasted. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, sweet malt, aquavit, dark malt, caraway - aquavit, wood - smoke. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20180421]

What an astonishing beer; simply great! Starting with a deep black pour and a very small beige head, that nevertheless retains. Then the exposion of all these senses in the aroma: soft choco, sumption of some soft coffee, spices, juniper, some soft smokiness, wood/oak, some licorice, dark fruits, alcohol...; everything the aquavit releases. I never rated the full 10 points before but here they are. The taste is amply sweet and mild bitter, licorice again, coffee, choco, warm alcohol. Little carbonation, but very fullbodied and very alcoholic; bit peppery. And this all in a very well mixed balance. Wow, I love it! What a fullness and a richness! Like is written on the bottle: "the art of BA"; Jopen knows what they were creating: "creating divine beer". (I was a bit skeptical about the high price; but it's all worth it).
