Alengrin (9649) - Gent, BELGIUM - DEC 31, 2021UPDATED: DEC 31, 2021 NEDIPA created for Billie's Craft Beer Fest, hopped with Strata, Mosaic in cryogenic form, 'ordinary' Mosaic and the custom Cryo POP blend from Yakima Chief Hops. Can from tderoeck, thanks! Thick and frothy, snow white, large-bubbled, moussy, opening and dissipating head, eventually reduced to a white ring over an initially near clear, warm golden beer with visible sparkling, turning hazy with more ochre-ish hue in the end. Strong, very dank nose of (over)ripe papaya, pomelo, armpit sweat, stale mango juice, Screwdriver, gin, orange zest, diesel, varnish, damp earth and even a brief whiff of manure. Sweet onset, bathing in tropical fruit juiciness (mango, papaya, mandarin) with medium carb and full, oily body; biscuity and cookie-ish malts under a big wave of hoppiness, providing more grapefruity bitterness than is typically the case in a NEDIPA, along with a retronasal 'cloud' of tropical fruit, citrus, tropical orchids but also strong sweaty dankness. Unsurprisingly, a prominent alcohol effect sets in towards the finish, wodka-like and peppery with an astringent tail, interfering too much with the hops for me. Overly boozy - why not keep this at, say, 8% ABV or so? Then there are some less flattering aspects to the nose as well, but La Source is still identifiable in being completely devoid of any typically 'Belgian' associations; this could have been made anywhere in the world where the 'haze craze' has gotten a foothold. Too boozy and too dank for me, I expected a bit more, to be honest.
Syfher (1218) - Brussels, BELGIUM - DEC 22, 2021UPDATED: DEC 22, 2021 Can of 33cl, in a Tulip glass; from the fridge. Drinked @home.
Really an heavy Quadruple IPA / IVPA
Heavy in hops, both in aroma and taste. Really nice to drink !
JorisPPattyn (12750) - Wilrijk, BELGIUM - DEC 12, 2021UPDATED: DEC 12, 2021 I Draught /I Huge, towering dense head over faintly veiled old golden beer. Dry/dried hops/dried herbs; bit peppery, faint resin. Sweet! Cloved oranges with some sugar, or orangesyrup. Hints at orangeliqueur. Slightly syrupy, oily feel. Medium carbonation. Slightly disconcerting beer. Has definitely some liqueur touches, but with its 12% ABV (which it hides pretty well), it ought to have a flavour explosion. And that is sorely missing.
Beerhunter111 (36080) - Beerland, GERMANY - NOV 14, 2021UPDATED: NOV 14, 2021 Sampled @ Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2021. A clear yellow golden beer. Aroma of strong pale malt, straw, citrus. Taste of sweet strong pale malt, yellow fruits, mango.
tiong (13617) - Espoo, FINLAND - NOV 14, 2021UPDATED: NOV 14, 2021 Draught @ Billie's Craft Beer Festival 2021. Slightly hazy, quite sweet and malty with some ripeish tropical fruits, hops and citrus. Heavy and dry finish, slightly warming alcohol. A bit unbalanced.
