COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have meanwhile proudly presented BATCH 22. Oak Aged Batch 22 was mainly matured on German Single Malt barrels. This whisky is considerably smoother and less ‘turfed’ than its Scottish counterparts, as a result of which batch 22 is much smoother than the previous batches that were matured on whisky barrels. In addition to the malty and smoked aroma, banana, vanilla, honey, apple and blossom scent can also be distinguished. The whisky is clearly present but does not dominate, which means that La Trappe Quadrupel can still clearly be recognised. This results in a balanced fusion of flavours, releasing aromas of almond and smoke. Batch 22 is full of flavour and very complex; with every sip, new flavour associations seem to appear. The aftertaste clearly shows the alcohol, together with the bitterness of wood tannin, which lingers for a while. This may not be the most extreme batch, but thanks to its complexity and overall balanced flavour, we can really recommend it. Its fine bouquet is best savoured when this batch is served at a temperature of 16-18 °C (61 – 64.5 °F). BATCH 22 was distributed as follows: Used Whisky barrels (Single Malt) 83,3%; Acacia wood (medium toast) 8,3%; New Oak Medium Toast 4,2%; New Oak High Toast 4,2%.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2021 I Obviously aged sample /I No head, dirty amber-brown, still beer. Very fruity nose with raisins, fruitcake, preserved cherries, prunes. Sweet, again fruity, as I prune d'Agen /I. Just a hit at acidity, and more than a boozy hint. Sweet booze, that is. Almondy, marzipan. Alcoholburn and -thinning; still very slick, burning MF. No carbonation left. Middle of the road in the series. But what do we read? German whisky barrels? GERMAN? Where do those hail from?

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2020 Well stored bottle. Clear amber/golden body with a small off-white head. Almost without carbonation. Strong aroma, caramel malt and quite boozy. Taste is malty with caramel, oak and dry fruit, but too much alcohol for the balance. Fine body and rather alcoholic aftertaste as well.

Clear deep red amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, light and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a little thin, mild creamy sweetness. Typical La Trappe Oak esters, sweet and a little floral but always contributing and never annoying. Decent sweet wood. Touch of sweet fruity whiskey. Touch of dry berries. Smooth and fairly dry finish. Smooth fruity whiskey linger. As always with these La Trappe Oak Aged, nuanced and layered.

Bottled from HetBierMoment. Dark mahogany colored, small head. Beautiful complex nose, alcohol, raisins, malts, vanilla, whisky. Same in flavor, alcohol more apparent. Lasting alcoholic finish. A little bit boozy, but apart from that: brilliant brew.

Fles, mooi donker kleurig bier met dunne schuimkraag. Heel verfijnd met een mooie balans. Rijpe banaan, helaas ook wat kurk smaak. Zoet en een vleug van vijg. Prachtig gemaakt. Mijn eerste la trappe batch. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Boozy whiskey, prune, caramel malt and hay aroma. Dark amber with moderate, short lasting head. Moderately sweet whiskey, prune, caramel malt, and moderately bitter wood, alcohol, and hay flavor. Nice body and balance. A bit boozy but overall nice.
