COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

I haven't really had too many "red" ales to compare this too, besides Rogues Red & Dry Hopped as well as Killians. I had the impression from the label that this is a red ale, but has more of a brown appearance...I guess like an brown ale, or indian brown. Tastes like a cross between an IPA and red ale though, but flavor a little on the bitter side. Could be better balanced for my taste, but hey, it's their recipe. Good overall beer, just don't know if I'd buy a 6-pack of it. Was a gift, and happy to try, but thought it could and would be a bit better................Updated 9/23/09- Grabbed a single of this to have a 2nd try. Starting to get more into Lagunitas. Enjoying it a bit more this time around. I like the flavor, I like the balance. Change my opinion and would buy again.

Let ale, med noter af rosiner. Den har en let europæsik humlesmag, som got kunne have været noget mere af.

(Bottle) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy beige head. Malty, hoppy, spicy nose with treacle toffee, dried fruit (pineapple, tropical fruit), orange peel, honey, caramel and some roasted almonds. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of treacle toffee, crisp-bread, orange peel, apricot marmalade, dried fruit, maple syrup, a touch of rye and a generous citric, spicy bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Lots of flavours, still in very good balance. Very nice.

Pours a deep amber red, suspended particulate, resilient ivory head,. Tons of grassy florals on the nose, pine, barleywine, booze, big and inviting. Full on the tongue, silky with spice. Caramel, resin, toffee, florals..A big tasty beer.

Burgundy color. Fruity aroma with grass hop. Taste caramel malt, sweet with a good portion of hops, more on the fruity side. Bitter hops during the finish.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. pours tiny hazy amber with a small offwhite head that slowly dissipates small sticky trace on the glass. Smell is malty, woody and tiny fruity with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, grapefruit juice, dried apricots, moist grass, pine needles, resinous wood, orange peal, lemon zest and hints of alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter, malty, slightly fruity, slightly grassy and slightly woody. Mouthfeel is soft, viscous, oily, astringent, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, oily bitter and cardboardy. Past its prime I’m afraid...

22 ounce bottle. Copper color. Sweet taste at first from the malt, then the flavor of grain, followed by a hop bitterness that does not longer.

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear auburn with a thick and frothy, if not long-lasting, pale buff head. Woody hops and fresh malt battle it for the top spot in the aroma, while hints of caramel and clove gladly sit on the sidelines. Flavor steps boldly onto the palate, presenting woody, hoppy, malt and caramel tones, while hints of clove and hay tag along. Body is on the firm side, as is the lasting fizz. So glad they resurrected this one!
