bierkoning (18836) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - SEP 19, 2020UPDATED: SEP 19, 2020 Bottle. Dark brown color. Smoked sausage and a hint of roast in the aroma. Bready, smoky caramelly flavor. Smoky finish.
hauxe (3004) - Butzbach, GERMANY - SEP 12, 2020UPDATED: SEP 12, 2020 Dark brown with a fleeting, creamy head. Aroma is not just smokey but charred, a mix of grill coal and burnt cedar on top of a port wine and chocolate base. Works for me. Taste is somewhat unforgiving, acrid bitter, beyond roasted and into burnt territory, like someone threw a big, black, half-burnt piece of firewood into the mix. Soft caramel tones underneath seek to mellow things, and do so, keeping it rough but not unpleasant. Medium bodied, mild carbonation, oily. A bruiser but I like it.
jfb (8142) - Bamberg, GERMANY - DEC 31, 2019UPDATED: DEC 31, 2019 (bottle) clear amber-ruby colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of honey-smoked ham and floral hops, surprisingly subtle, with a light hint of honey melon and some peeled almonds. flavour is more on the burnt treebark side of things, slightly acrid, with some notes of heavily fatty ham and cherry wood in the light toasted-bitter finish. medium-bodied with lively carbonation.
