chinhaez (155) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - APR 10, 2021UPDATED: APR 10, 2021 Bomber bottle. I was shocked to see that this was retired. Blackish pour. Medium tan head. Aroma of campfire on a warm summer night. Flavor of smoked oak and some dark fruits. Palate is full and viscous. Carbonation is soft. Goodbye old friend. Edit note-- that this flagship brew is terminated raises many questions about the management and leadership at Left Hand. I hope they bring it back some day.
tightslice (2689) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAR 4, 2021UPDATED: MAR 4, 2021 Dusty bottle from Rosedale Market in Austin, TX. Aroma is smoky, roasty, earthy malts. Taste is smoky, dry cocoa, mild licorice, roasty things. An excellent, and maybe the best American smoked beer?
GregMooreNH (6520) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - JUN 8, 2018Pours black with two finger, tan head. Aroma is heavy smoke and some caramel. Taste is brown sugar and nuttiness, warming to strong smoke, roast and a touch of clove. Finish is smoky malt. A very good smoked beer.
MetalNHopHead (2791) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - APR 19, 2018I can't think of a better tribute to Colorado's smokejumpers than this beautifully balanced Imperial Porter with a smoke element. Modern brewing takes everything to extremes be that roast, alcohol, hops, sourness, or smoke. This Smoked Porter is much more reserved by comparison. Pour is just between brown and black. There's a touch of smoke on the nose, but it's barely noticeable along with the roasted malts. Flavor is slightly more smoky, but "slightly" is the operative word. While some of these beers go to ash try levels of smoke or have a meatiness comparable to a smokehouse, Smokejumper instead keeps it to a minimum and lets the toasted barley and herbal hops come through. There was even a bit of syrupy malty sweetness redolent of honey. Both the smokejumpers and the brewers at Left Hand deserve to have glasses raised in tribute to them.

O- This is almost as much Imperial Stout as it is Smoked beer. The smoke is very much there but not overwhelming. Really balanced and no umami sort of flavors.Paired very well with some potato bologna. This bottle had about 2 years of age on it.
