Brigadier (4590) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 31, 201622 ounce bottle
While rooting around the cellar I found this crying out for a bottle share. It has held up well but if for some reason you still have a stash don’t wait much longer. It is top notch but I can tell there were better days.
Aroma / Appearance - A mocha head protects the soft black body beneath. The gentle presence of cooling coffee sits placidly. Plum, malt, and a dry chewy texture stick in the air above the glass.
Flavor / Palate - Warm bitterness builds on the tongue before surging towards the throat. Chocolate, oak, and raspberry transition to a coffee finish. The balanced feel offers a long period of reflection as it fades in the throat. Beers like this remind me why I enjoy baltic and imperial porters so much.
pivo (2691) - GERMANY - MAR 9, 2015Roasted nose. Jet Black color. Sweet malt base with a huge espresso bitterness and charcoal taste. A little too burnt in flavor.
YogiBeera (2570) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 1, 2014Nice amber golden color with a tiny head , nice alcohol pumpkin taste. Mediums lasting with hoppy finish
generallee08 (784) - New York, USA - JUN 28, 2014This beer pours slowly and has a very dark, opaque appearance. Its head is thick and long lasting. It has a rick tan color and makes lots of spotty lacing on the glass as I slowly sip this one down. Its nose is full of dark roasted and sweet sugary malty notes. There is a hint of hops as well as a mild boozy character. This beer is loaded with lots of tasty toasted/bready, roasted coffee like, and dark chocolaty malt notes. It also has plenty of sweet brown sugary and caramel like to give it a good balance of dark roasted vs. sweet sugary maltiness. Hop flavor is mild but still adds another layer of complexity. The alcohol is noticeable throughout and adds nice mild boozy warmth to the overall character. On the palate it has a nice full body and firm texture with mellow carbonation.

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a thin brown head. The head faded very fast giving way to a nice level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is big of a brown bread, cocoa, and coffee mixed with good doses of some dark fruit. Rounding out these aromas is a stronger boozy aroma.
Taste – A big malty taste meets the tongue. A dark bready and cocoa flavor are the biggest of the initial tastes. These flavors are soon greeted with some flavors of the dark fruit more toward the middle, which sweeten it to a light extent, but by no means make it a sweeter brew. At the end, a nice more roasted flavor comes to the tongue bittering up the taste quite a bit. This is accompanied by an oaky and boozy taste which leave a lingering roasted boozy bitter aftertaste on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – Thick and big. The body of the beer is big and chewy. The flavors of the roasted malt and cocoa really soak into the tongue with this thickness as it coats the tongue. The carbonation level is rather low, only accentuating the coating of the tongue that the body promotes.
Overall – Very chewy and roasty. A good cold weather warmer with big flavor.

warhawk91 (302) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - DEC 13, 2013Pint draft. Pour is black with a tan head that lasts pretty long. Decent lacing. Smell is sweet chocolate, coffee and hops with a hint of booze. Taste is very rich and sweet. Lots of dark chocolate and coffee with a citrusy hop note as well. Nice and viscous like a stout. Does have a warming alcohol kick as well. Very decent.

glennmastrange (3404) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - NOV 20, 2013Bottle. Heavy cereal, toasted, dark chocolate and strong coffee for the malt, moderate burnt herbs and resin for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with prune, vanilla and soured milk (which all together adds up to chocolate cake). Head is average size, frothy/creamy, beige with excellent lacing and mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a soft carbonation. Tasted a lot like like carbonated black iced coffee, smooth and creamy too.
