COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Earthy, rich and steeped in autumn’s magic: it’s an ale of change. This potent infusion is haunted by memories of summer and the first frost on abandoned fields. Jinx prepares the bones for snow. It has the glint of golden maples at peak and finishes light as an ode to the fading sun. A bit of peat-smoked malt imparts a subtle hint of smoke that reminds us of fall’s bonfires. Available in the Fall.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2021 This is a backlog rating from 2007 from a bottle, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are sweet malts, caramel, fruity, mild plus smoked, interesting.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2019 My favorite one from the new Night of the Living Dead Fall Variety Pack. Says smoked ale, but pretty much a Scotch Ale. A light to medium semi-clear brown appearance. Not much aroma. Flavors of caramel malt, bread, light hop, and a little smokiness. Not something to fall in love with, but makes the 12-pack bundle worth it and I could see myself grabbing a 6 of this from time to time if available.

chinchill (6213) - South Carolina, USA - MAR 12, 2018
Poured from a 12 oz 2017 bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: Lightly hazed copper-brown body with a thin beige head. Limited lacing on the glass. Aroma: Mild malt and fruity (!) hops. Mouthfeel: Smooth medium-light bodied. Semi-dry finish. Taste: nutty with medium and dark malts; some mild hop, smoke and peat notes. Overall: OK version of the style with more hops and less toffee than average.

damzz (804) - Methuen, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 11, 2017
Pours a deep mahogany with a tan had that leaves lacing. Nose is faint smoke malt. Body is medium. Taste is light smoke with bitter chocolate with a light front of tongue sweetness.. 12 oz bottle

Kleg (2050) - The Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 10, 2017
Clear deep copper color with a small khaki head and fair retention. Minimal lacing. A good blend of caramel malt and smoke flavors. Not as ashy as other smoke beers I've tried, and that's a good thing. 6.9 ABV is well hidden. Enjoyed during Hurricane Irma.

Cybercat (10436) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - AUG 7, 2017
Pours clear sepia with a fizzy buff head. Aroma offers caramel, toasted malt, and subtle peaty and smoky tones. Flavor delivers caramel and toasted malt, and more smoky character, plus hints of woody spices. Mouthfeel presents good body but so-so fizz. Let it jinx you.

oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 14, 2016
Pours a crisp bright golden yellow color. Aromas of peat, moss, and vegetables. Flavor is metallic vegetable tasting. Watery, sweet finish that was gone in a second.

BeAndrews (30) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - APR 17, 2015
Pours a clear bubbly dark copper with a small diminishing white head. Nice smoky malt aroma, reminds me of whisky, along with some toffee and hops. The flavour, even though it’s a mild version of a Smoked beer, is still pretty good. It’s malty with some smoke, sugar and a little whisky.

hman43 (3700) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - DEC 27, 2014
It pours amber with a light tan head. It has a roasted aroma with hints of nuts. It has flavors that are sweet which include caramle, roasted elements, and smoked flavoring. The lacing is moderate. It has a semi dry finish with a hint of cherry.
