COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We drew Red and Casita this year and bandied about a whole bunch of ideas. Eventually we realised we were circling around Mexican flavours that we all loved, so Ryan, Rich, and I looked into the flavour profiles from some traditional Mexican drinks and dishes that A) we like, B) played well together, and C) wouldn’t completely terrify the British palate! In the end we decided that the rich, savoury, sweet, chocolate, and umami flavours in mole sauces that come from a wide variety of dried chiles, tamarind, and cinnamon would provide the subtle base of the beer, and be accentuated by bright tart flavours of hibiscus and lime– just like you might find in a traditional tiendecita. A subtle complexity of flavours in the meal followed up by refreshing tastes from the aguas de tamarindo, Jamaica, limón, and horchata.

Lubiere (19735) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 31, 2020
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2020 A hazed reddish amber gose with a quickly dissipating white head. In aroma, sweet fruity mix of tequila and hibiscus, or Jamaica as they down south. In mouth, tart mix of ground cherry, light lactic and Epsom salts, light hibiscus, refreshing. Can from lcbo private imports, a year old.

azzurro (1954) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2020
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2020 Ordered online from the LCBO, nice red colour, sweet and spicy taste, which I don’t necessarily like the spice, but I couldn’t compare this beer to any other, which makes it quite special. Kudos!

Spab (8221) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 18, 2020
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2020 330 ml can from the LCBO. Pours a cloudy deep amber colour with smallish off-white head. Aroma is lime, minerals, mellow chilli and flowers. Flavour has lime juice, hibiscus, saltinesss and just enough chilli to be apparent without spoiling the beer (I’m not one for beers bringing the heat). Lighter carbonation. Nice.

Davros (4374) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - FEB 25, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2019 Pours slightly hazy red/plum with a quickly fading head. Nose shows lemon, soft hibiscus, cinnamon, lime zest. Flavours include more cinnamon, hibiscus, a fair bit of acidity. Some lime peel. Very light body. Spritzy carbonation.

herrklemann (1279) - Graz, AUSTRIA - FEB 8, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 8, 2019 Can. Quickly fading white head on a pale red body. Loads of lime, hibiscus tea, some sharp chili. Tingling sweet-ish start, then some heat comes in with pearly carbonation, turns tart, mineralic, finishes velvety smooth and has a hibiscus tea-live finish. Slick body with pearly but soft carbonation. Warming, sharp finish. Intense, pleasant.

hawthorne00 (6630) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 30, 2018
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2018 Can. Dusky red, no head. 3+ Cocktail-like aroma with lime and salt, syrup, some cardboard as well as wheat, chile at the end. Tarter and drier than suggested by the aroma. The balance is not unpleasant and the chile in particular is nicely judged to smoulder then just peek out at the end, but it's completely dominated by the additives.

ronsbeer (8) - - OCT 25, 2018 does not count
UPDATED: OCT 25, 2018 Pours a lovely reddy colour, im guessing from the hibiscus, with little to no head. Lime on the front with some subtle hint of spices(tamrind?). Chilli seems hard to pick. Refreshing.

czar (13375) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 4, 2018
on tap at le griendel, qc. slightly hazy bright orange red pour with a very small pink cap offering some retention and lacing. perfumey peppercorns, leafy and flowery hibiscus, cranberry-like, tart vinous character, spices. moderate carbonation, light body - never too thin; dry and tart woodsy-spicy finish. good balance and it all works, surprisingly.
