UPDATED: NOV 18, 2021 Bottle from John's. Pours a dark amber hue with a medium white head. A nice soft caramel and citrus nose. Great palate. Sweet caramel, toffee, bitter hops at times, big oranges. Wow. Very good. The palate is divine.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2021 Bottle 500ml. Pours amber the near white head. This is probably my favorite amber ale. Taste is mostly from the malts, Carmel, bread. But the hops kicks in with some fruity, citrus flavors

nearbeer (7699) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 7, 2020
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2020 500 ml. bottled 10/29/2019. Slightly foggy, chestnut brew with a creamy film of foam. Interesting aroma of pineapple upside-down cake with touches of cocoa, grapefruit and orange. Flavor has bread, orange, grapefruit, toffee, white pepper, toasted walnut and a touch of coffee. Medium body has medium-high carbonation that's almost too much but remains smooth enough. Easy drinking balance that finishes nutty and dry.

HippyHop (1187) - Quebec, CANADA - DEC 18, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2019 On tap. Hops aren't listed but this smells like Chinook to me. Pine/spruce/cedar, some citrus notes, with caramel, red fruit, roasted nuts. Fragrant, piney/sprucey hops linger through the finish. Delicious amber ale. Bottle a month plus later: not much to add, other than what a beautiful roasty malt this is. I remember the pretzel I was eating at the brewery while drinking this and now I want to go to there.

Mr.Spooks (4080) - Tennessee, USA - SEP 5, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2019 Oh my. Gorgeous, beautiful pint, pouring out a slightly opaque burnt umber with a frothy beige head and infinite lace. Woody nose leads to a citric, caramel-laced front end, dusted with cocoa and dripping with resin, grapefruit zest, pine, and grass, leading to an herbal, bitter finish underlined by a subtle, coffee-tinged sweetness. Hops cling to the palate long into the fade, as does a tea-like undercurrent. Not sure if I could distinguish this hoppy amber ale from a Red IPA, but who cares. It's amazing.

BelgianBeerGal (5522) - Panama City, Florida, USA - AUG 30, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 30, 2019 Growler from Hop City Birmingham on the way back from INDOC. Pours out a chestnut brown color with a foamy tan head that lasts. Huge aroma of fresh cut fir and caramel malt. The flavor starts bitter, then slightly caramel sweet and finishes with a hint of coffee and grassy hops. Really nice beer.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2019 DATE: August 24, 2019... OCCASION: enjoying the first of Brad's much-too-kind parting gifts from our roommates' get-together--and the first of three Maine offerings... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... this pours a nearly opaque, dark mahogany brown body that hoists a foamy, clumpy, brownish white head... like the sea, its head is amazingly resilient, sitting as it was poured five minutes later... this is a stunning amber to the eyes... thick caramel and toffee form a strong base with oats and cereal grains... above, pepper spice, pine, plum, some boozy rum, resin, and tea leaf take its complexity to a slow sipping degree... cherry and hard fruits also present... a dampened forest pervades... fitting a whale museum in a bottle, this drinks with the quality of a beer far below its 7.2% ABV... its flavor profile is diverse, reflecting its aroma with plum, dank citrus, pine and tea that marry caramel and toffee in a way that tabloids would be jealous of... with lofty expectations, this beer nonetheless nails its profile and then ups the ante with its complexity and drinkability....
