MNAle (640) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 29, 2021
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2021 Crystal clear yellow-gold, ample carbonation, but my pour started out too gentle and even though I poured the last 2/3 quite vigorously, it still only garnered a short white head that disappeared in a minute or so. Some lacing as I tip the glass. I thought about just chugging it from the wide-mouth bottle for more authenticity, but instead I used the closest glassware I have to what I remember from the dive bars in the 60s - a sham pilsner glass. Aroma is not bad at all. Kind of nice, actually, if not too strong. Bready and grainy with hints of fruit. The initial swig starts with an impression of a taste that is, well, interesting. The grain from the aroma is more prominent in the initial sip. The middle picks up some sweet corn flavors, perhaps honey, with the finish and aftertaste being bread doughy with a mellow, doughy, aftertaste. If there is any bitterness there, I almost have to imagine it. IOW, it is quite mild. While my initial impression of the taste was 'interesting' (Minnesota-speak for a 'nice' way of avoiding stating an opinion), the flavor did grow on me, even by the finish of that initial sip, and it continues to does grow on me the more I drink. I actually am enjoying this, and could see pounding a few in a summer afternoon on the deck. Mouth feel is medium to thin bodied, more substantial than most AALs. Overall, as I stated, I quite enjoyed it. The only format I could find was the six pack of 12 ounce bottles, and I won't have any problem wanting to finish the rest.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2021 Kroger bottle. Gosh, I haven't had this stuff since 7th grade. Mix 6-pack, Kroger. Pale gold, lots of carbonation, large, soft white head. Doesn't look half-bad. Grainy, grassy, glue nose. Flavor is grain, envelope glue, paper. You know, where it's not good, it's not nearly as bad as I remember.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2021 Easy drinking sweet tasting beer with low bitterness, but very faint is that cereal touch. Quite funny looking bottle.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2021 This is a great brew!!! Very nice aroma without any rotten. Notes alot of grain to go with a hint of malt pours well with head to be desired but the mouthfeel.... OMG this brew will go down smooth as glass out of their trademarked 'grenade' wide mouth 12 oz bottle and this stuff packs a mean punch dont let the alchohol content fool you it hits hard!!! But the drinkability is so good you dont realize it until it's too late... anytime I see a 6 pack for sale I snag it up. Usually over higher quality beer because these are comparable to much more expensive beers when it comes to drinkability alone!!!!

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2021 Brings me back to college parties at the campground or at the lake. Pours clear straw yellow with a thin soapy white head. Aroma of barley, malts, and skunk. Sweet corn and grain flavor with some notes of bread. More watered down than I remember.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2020 This is my 'guilty pleasure' beer, drank mostly out of the grenade bottles (though I partake in a 40 oz. every now-and-then, as well). Yellow and malty, isn't overly offensive in smell or taste. Refreshing enough for a malt beverage. Nice drinkability. Not overly sweet or bitter.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2020 I don’t want just a malt liquor. I want a fine malt liquor. This 40oz to freedom was picked up today at the nearby convenience store after I used their car wash. The clerk put the bottle in a paper bag, I think I will keep it that way. I detect your basic beer scent and with the green bottle it is kind of hard to figure out the color of the liquid. But I do like that it is a glass bottle, none of that plastic business. Substantial. A drink, not bad. A suggestion of citrus, grain, sweet corn and water. Not up there with OE 800 but better than Steel Reserve. Heaven help me, I’m a malt liquor connoisseur.
