COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Keg at Mother Kelly's, Bethnal Green in 2016. Lightly hazy deep amber with offwhite head. Aroma of orange peel, biscuity malt and piney hops, with some herbal notes. Good mix of malty and tinned fruit sweetness with resinous hops.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2019 Pivo u flaši. Popijeno u Gourmet Shopu & Tasting Roomu 'Pötãman' u Premanturi. Sladna slatkasta i Brett aroma. To je gornje srednje gustoće. Okus slatkast i malko kiselkast , i taj brettanomyces okus je zamjetan , i to mi baš ne paše uz ovaj stil..

GoufCustom (3017) - HONG KONG - APR 21, 2019
UPDATED: APR 21, 2019

330ml bottle bought at Artisan Butcher in Sai Ying Pun.

Looks: Clear amber colour with a layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; One finger head and with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant malt, with strong Brett funkyness, Sherry, red wine, melanoidin, cherries, sugar, spices, light herbs, biscuits and yeast.

Taste: Close to light sweet full malt, with strong grain spirits, grape skins, light red fruits, funky spices, herbs, very dry biscuits, lemon, mid to fair bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body. Fairly slick and astringent palate.

Mouth Feel: Full maltyness in a slick background. Got stripped by Brett but the fullness can be felt. Very lean and dry with strong but tasteless grain spirits, plus very notable grape skins. Minimal sweetness, rather low-fi funky spice and herbs. Dry biscuity and lemon finish. Weird!

Hoppiness: Light herbs in nose. Lemon, herbs and grass in taste; Bitterness is fair strong for an abrupt, medium astringent malty finish.

After Taste: Very dry. Grainy Bretty spicy and fairly bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one's an oddball: its aroma is a mishmash of winey Brett funky full maltyness to give you some expectation, yet the taste is hollow, lacking dimensions, and nagging astringency from Brett treatment. Its aim is being an Orval clone, but it's nowhere near. Disappointing.

CanCrusher (1706) - Ilirska Bistrica, SLOVENIA - APR 19, 2019
UPDATED: APR 19, 2019 Bottle 0,33L. Clear bronze color with big, frothy, off-white head. Funky, brett aroma, barnyard and horse blanket. Taste is light sweet and slightly sour with funky aftertaste. It takes 1/3 of beer to get used on it. Lighter on body and drinkable, but a bit too funky for me...

DraftDodger (5615) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 13, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2019 Copenhagen 13/3 2019. 33 cl bottle from Mikkeller Webshop. Keith Shore drawing of guy struggling not too drown in a giant glass with pink (!) beer on the label. Pours deep auburn red amber with big white head. Settles as fat, frothy, creamy, 2 cm thick layer of foam. Crawling up the side of the glass. Substantial lacing. Aroma is sweetish with very pronounced odor of funk. Brett meeting caramel. Sharp citrus, light roast. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, almost flat texture. Flavor is lightly sweet. Followed by a sharp, unstable, funky sourness. Aftertaste is sour and weird. Lingerers for a while. From the funky side of the fence. Not without charm but takes some getting used to.
