COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big, oak barrels, known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it’s considered one of the best sour beers around.

Beer5000 (9502) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUL 28, 2021
UPDATED: JUL 28, 2021 Bottle. Slightly unclear, dark brown body under a nice, moderate sized tan head. Aroma has malt, dry fruit, acidic red berries, wood, some cellar notes and slightly funky. Taste goes in the same direction as the aroma, sweetness from malt and dry fruit balancing against sour berries and vinegar. Mild wood , hint of caramel and smooth finish. Fine body, easy drinkable and a certain complexity.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2021 This is a backlog rating from 2008 from multiple bottles over the years shared by many people (I still have one from 07ish), from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are tart, fruity, woody, complex, acetic character works with this, solid.

Flavour of oak, vinegar, citric acid, brown sugar and heather. Some rye bread in the background. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. Pretty sour with a malty backbone.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2020 37,5cl corked bottle at home, 2018 ed. Almost clear beauty of a ruby mahogany colour, foamy and stable beige head. Dry and acidic Flemish Red, more funky too than my favorite in the style Rodenbach: cherries, red berries, plum skin. Medium body and carbonation, soft mouthfeel.
