Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly tart finish. O- Been wanting this one for a long while. Straight up natural cherry juice. Not a lot to say, other than wow it's great. Love New Glarus and probably only second to their Strawberry Rhubarb for me.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2021 It’s pure cherry juice, what’s not to like. Reddish dark amber. Smells of sweet cherries. Tart and refreshing, hint of cinnamon and pie crust at the end.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2021 Bottle shared at John and Brad's - nose is cherry. Sweeter than I world have guessed. Couli-esque. Cloying. Usually shy away from cherry flavors but this is a new glarus...

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2021 Pours a beautiful and dark ruby red. Taste is chock full of sweet cherries with a lingering tartness. The Cherry taste is bright and fully authentic. Background flavors are sweet vanilla and subtle oak. Beer has a great balance of sweet and tart and avoids being too sour or funky. Mouthfeel is quite sticky and savory. A true treat and fantastic beer from New Glarus. This is the gold standard for how Cherry should be in a beer!

Aurelius (6702) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 25, 2020
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2020 Standard longneck, OK label. Ruddy, clear brown pour with a rosy, thick khaki head. Aroma is cherry candy. Lightly spiced, faint cinnamon, sweet, fruity quaff. Moderately tart. Meaty body, syrupy. Enjoyable, dessert beer. Thanks to Barb for schlepping back from WI and sharing at the socially distant Zombie Apocalypse gathering.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2020 There is a general rule among folks from Wisconsin that if you're traveling and if your hosts enjoy beer, take along at least a bomber or two of New Glarus Belgian Red to ensure you are bringing a good and glorious gift from Cheesehead Nation. My two favorite all-time fruit ales are this (which I can't believe I haven't waxed zymologically about before) and New Glarus Serendipity. Aroma from a poofy pour that would make cinematographers cry is enormous cherries and a hint of wheat bread. Taste is tart but not sour, and finish is a crazy juicy tartness. A few years ago, the brewery expanded its bottling variety by making both bombers and 12-ounce bottles of Belgian Red -- great move!

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2020 Bottled 355ml. -Courtesy of Marko, shared with him and hrabren. No abv stated on the label. Dark amber coloured, minimal off-white head, sweet cherry nose. Cherry, fruity and slightly syrupy taste with some acidity in the finish. Too strong cherries for my taste.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2020 Bottle, huge thanks wchesser! Shared with Ogivlado, Hrabren and Dina. Pungent sour cherry aroma, light light acetic tartness. Huge fruit taste, lovely sour cherry profile, sweetish, ending tart. Genuinely nice fruit beer, and a classic I'm really glad to have tried.
