COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2021 This is a backlog rating from 2008 from a bottle, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are toasted malts, caramel, bready, lightly earthy.

EerieDrinks (1194) - Malm, SWEDEN - OCT 10, 2019
UPDATED: OCT 10, 2019 2 finger off-white head. Semi-clear, deep amber to copper coloured beer. Aroma of caramel, malts (both roasted and regular), slightly metallic, wonderful wholewheat breadiness, raisins, fig jam and overripe citrus. Taste is similar but with a clear metallic and alcoholic presence. Brighter hop character here aswell. Mouthfeel is oily for the style with a light crispiness to it. Full bodied. Very sessionable. Medium-high bitterness. Medium-low carbonation. Slightly sticky. Lingers on for a good while. Overall: Could definitely be altered in taste but glad to finally have tried this somewhat (Swedish) legend of a beer. Nice Lager!

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’ place, thanks EuroSecretSanta - Summer swap! Clear dark amber with a white film. Caramel and malt aroma - somewhat old. Sweet taste with bitter undertones and molasses. Light body, long and sweet finish, a little sticky. Nice but a little old.
