COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Can:Filtered 30.01 Lanre Bakare // From Bradford To The World Northern Monk Foreign Extra Stout // Alc 8.3% Vol// 440ml In tribute to Guinness Foreign Extra, a constant through Lanre Bakare’s tales of party and song, we dug into the history of the style – prominent roast barley and black malt profile, dried fruit aromas, and a sweet, rounded body – and fine-tuned it to be a respectful but distinctly Monk take on the style. Expect flavours of coffee, tobacco, and bitter chocolate rounded with notes of sweet caramel, molasses, and sweet cherry. Ingredients: Malted Barley, Maltodextrin, Hops, Yeast

SilkTork (7107) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - JAN 5, 2022
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2022 Jan 2022. Large can from LowCostBeer. A very soft, almost innocuous, Foreign Stout from Northern Monk with a very (deliberately?) confusing name. Looks to me like it should be called Lanre Bakare, as those are the prominent words on the can. But, no, apparently it should be 30.01 From Bradford to the World. Not sure where that name comes from, as the small words at the bottom of the can are: 30.01 (new line) Lanre Bakare // From Bradford To The World (new line) Northern Monk (new line) Foreign Extra Stout // Alc 8.3 Vol // 440ml The result of not being clear and obvious with the name is that I get frustrated and irritated. And I feel that clearly this is not a beer aimed at me. I feel alienated. But I assume everyone is confused, because it has been entered on RateBeer under a name that does not accurately relate to what is on the can. So, the blurb for this is that it is a 'tribute' (is that the same sort of thing as where men post videos of themselves masturbating on photos of women?) to Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. Hmm. I like Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. It is somewhat more robust, dark, bitter, roasty, complex, and interesting than this mother's tit. This is a commercial beer pretending to be sophisticated and trendy. It's a sweet, boozy, easy drinking Guinness FES. But do I like it? Yes. Of course. It is designed to be attractive and appealing. Do I find it to be more than appealing? Uplifting? Astonishing? Fascinating? Etc. No, I don't find it to be any of those things. It is a superficial, easy drinking piece of alcopop nonsense. Drinkable and attractive. Yes. Satisfying and rewarding, and something to recommend. Hell no. File under - bit of a laugh, gimmick, kids stuff. [2.6]

dragnet101 (2331) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - DEC 23, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2021 Can from lowcostbeer, consumed 2 months past BBE. Lovely thick looking black pour with small fairly tight beige to tanned head. Aroma of liquorice, treacle, roasted malt, chocolate, berries. Taste starts with a berry fruitiness and liquorice, then some roast, dark chocolate and coffee bitterness kicks in before a dry, ashy finish with remnants of the berry tang. Medium+ body, oily, slightly zingy carbonation when something softer would have worked better. Very good stout.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2021 0.44 l can at Valhalla Craft Beer Bar, Zagreb, shared with Višnja 666. Dark brown to black, small beige head. Soft roasty, toasty and fruity flavour, hints of chocolate liqueur, alcohol. After a while dark cherry and cocoa nibs. Slightly boozy. Soft, smooth, strong, lots of chocolate, roasted malts, burnt, wonderful dark thick cherry, bitter burnt finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, moderate finish. Alcohol hidden.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2021 Can shared with Ogivlado and Vid. Pitch black body, tan-beige small, thick head that went away soon enough. Soft aroma, chocolatey and grainy, light coffee, well developed and highly pleasant. Lean, dry taste, chocolate again, light raisins as well, soft, harmonious, light carbonation bite. Not as impressive as the aroma, but a very good beer overall anyway. Bit disappointed they didn't do it with sorghum just for kicks, but there you go, definitely not complaining about this one!
