DrnkMcDermott (3730) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - JAN 3, 2022UPDATED: JAN 3, 2022 Mixed 4-pack from Jewel.
A much more pillowy head out of the can than the Clayce. Darker amber color, which of course is hard to be sure of looking at my quickie photos. Smell of cinnamon, maple and cherry is there as advertised, perhaps a little too strong, but that’s often what happens with a holiday beer. I get the amber malts again, but surprisingly, there’s also an impression of the same hazelnut from the previous beer, even though I’m having them a day apart. Perhaps that’s from the blend of adjuncts, mainly the cinnamon and the maple. But the spiciness does remind me of perhaps one of the yearly editions of Anchor’s holiday Our Special Ale. Almost spicy like a holiday eggnog.
Headbanger (4457) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - DEC 14, 2021UPDATED: DEC 14, 2021 16 oz can 12/13/21 (Jewel-Osco) 41° in Shaker. Pours slightly hazy amber with a small beige ring for a head. Aroma of roasted malt, spices, maple, and cherries. Taste of the same with the cinnamon being more prominent on the back end. This medium bodied brew is not bad as it hits the mark for the description.
Scipio (2133) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - DEC 12, 2021UPDATED: DEC 12, 2021 Amber pours with a thin beige head. The aroma is heavier cinnamon, some maple, and faint cherry. The taste is practically identical, maybe the cinnamon is a little more potent actually. It is pretty tasty for a little while, although this flavor combination gets more wearisome the more I drink it. Moderately sweet and a lingering cinnamon finish. Medium bodied. Good for a few sips maybe, but the entire beer is probably too much.
ryecatcher (1632) - Beverly, Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 15, 2021UPDATED: NOV 15, 2021 Can from a mixed 4-pack procured at Evergreen Park Binny's. Hazy amber pour, off-white head with decent retention. Nose is malty and maple syrup. Relatively dry and malty, faint cinnamon, a lot of maple, the cherries are MIA. Reminiscent of other holiday beers I've had from other breweries. Not bad but also not groundbreaking. First beer I've had from Obscurity. The Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer artwork caught my attention. Tis the season.
