Inspired by a resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler Oud Bruin is a blend of several generations of brown ales that were barrel aged for over 18 months. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the beer creating complexity and depth of flavor. Intricate, yet balanced, The Meddler has an 8.9% ABV.

750ml bottle, 2017 vintage. Tart cherry aroma with notes of vinous red wine, leather, caramel and lacto. Pours dark caramel colored with a thin tan head that has good retention and lacing. Starts with tart cherry and caramel malt flavors with a lively mouthfeel. Finishes dry but quite smooth with leather and lacto flavors with vinous red wine flavor and character at the end that coats the palate. Really nice oud bruin.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2017 Pours very dark brown with a quickly dissapating head. Aromas: sharp acidicity, malt vinegar, oak tannins, notes of red wine & a slight spice of nutmeg and cinnamon. Taste: sour, red currants, burgabdy wine, tannic barrel flavours & a subtle hint of chocolate on the finish. Overall: A very nice beer, does the style justice.

Bottle. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of caramel, sour dark fruits, wood, sour grains and cherry vinegar. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, dark fruits, wood, sour cherries and a nice mellow aftertaste. Good stuff.

Quick3Beers (2635) - East Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - APR 28, 2017
Pours a rich dark brown with some deep red notes from a bottle. Rich winey aroma, mixed with oak, toffee, a little coffee? Flavor adds a leatheriness almost like Worcestershire sauce but more in quality than actual flavor. Pretty good beer.

Bottle in Austin. Pours a nice mohagony with a light head. Well carbonated. Aroma is leather, tobacco, funk and sour cherries. Taste is dark fruit, oak, toffee, red wine/tannins and balsalmico. Quite traditional and not too sweet. Very enjoyable and true to the style.
