COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three-Eyed Raven harbors a deep dark brown, almost jet-black color with a light tan head. Yeast forward aromas are packed with peppery phenolics and fruity esters. Despite what you might expect from a dark hued beer, the flavor brings to mind a traditional saison: a light, malty body with a hint of sweetness, and roast accentuated by herbal and spicy hops, yet underpinned by pleasant yeastiness. Finish is crisp, with lingering notes of herbal hops and Belgian yeast. Malt: Our carefully crafted mixture of specialty malts. Sugar: Dark Candi Hops: Hallertau Spalt Select, Tettenang and Bravo Spices: None ABV: 7.2% Available on draft and in 750ml bottles. Pair with roasted chicken and pork, barbeque and other spicy dishes, grilled vegetables, goat cheese and smoked gouda.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2021 Procured at La Bodega from Riverside, California for $12.99, Three-Eyed Raven is a dark saison ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang from Cooperstown, New York. The air yields saison, caramel, roasted malt, dark fruit, vanilla scented Bravo hop, and a floral hop upon the nose. The appearance is a dark brown that pours a finger of beige head. Light reveals a mahogany body along with tiny particulates. The alcohol content is 7.2%. Roasted malt fills the body followed by a caramel malt tint. Raisins are robust, and slightly sweetened by dark candi sugar. Saison fairly creams the take and lightens the malt and raisin composition. Bravo hops relatively bitters the saison and caramel take. Prunes compliments the saison and raisin blend, and lightly textures the mouthfeel. Tettenang hops slightly spices the take and imbues a citrus hue to the saison. Hallertau Spalt hops assists with the spice take. Three-Eyed Raven is an alluring dark saison ale. Roasted and caramel malts, raisins, dark candi sugar, saison, Bravo hops, prunes, and Tettenang and Hallertau Spalt hops fuse into a delicious craft beer. Raisins and dark candi sugar fairly sweetens the saison and malt body. Bitter Bravo hops and a fair spice from Tettenang and Hallertau Spalt hops excites the take, and mixes with the caramel and raisin solution. Saison eases the drink, and complimented by prunes. I treasured each drink and enamored by the depth the dark fruits and hops bring. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. UPDATED: AUG 11, 2020 Found out of bottle from a friend. Good looking dark pour. Strong but pleasant aroma. Great winter option. Better than most for the style.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2019 Pours deep, opaque chestnut brown-to-black with a 2-finger beige head. Fruit esters in the aroma, with earthy and herbal notes mixed in. Medium body with just a touch of oil. Dry finish with a touch of astringency. Crisp, fruity flavors mix with earthy yeast and a light roasty note. A touch of spice to it as well.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2019 Night 2 of the Game of Thrones drink the beers while re-capping last season. 750 ml bottle purchased in September 2015 at Costco in San Marcos. POURS mostly black with only the faintest of garnet highlights visible and almost a full two fingers of light tan foam. AROMA of Belgian-y yeast, spiced plums, anise, dusty cardboard, and some chocolate. FLAVOR of dark malts, stewed dark fruits, smoked raisins, green apple, and yeasty dark bread. Finishes with some roasty bitterness and astringency. I recall this 'black saison' style had a short period of popularity when this beer came out. Certainly a unique mash-up and this one is pretty good. (340, 1135)

Reddish brown beer, high carbonation as expected from a bottle conditioned beer. At nose it has plum, raisins, apple and orange notes and also some very delicate honey and licorice notes as well. In palate it has medium - full body and the flavor is quite complex, but very well balanced dough notes, burned flavours sweet and sour notes. The aftertaste reveals a little bit of the malt and then the burned malt flavour remains for a little while. Very pleased with this beer.

May 10th, 2015 - True to theme, we enjoyed this beer on the eve of a new episode of Game of Thrones, satisfying our Millennial old gods and having a meaty drink to go with the weighty plot lines. The scent reminds me a lot of a Belgian Strong Ale, with its rich veins of dark fruits, anise, plum, fig and a nice topping of grain. The mouthfeel is foamy, and the flavor is semi-sweet, with a touch of fennel and some Coca-cola. It's a nice balance, like something I might pull from an apothecary or a Maester?

Malt and sweet aroma. Pours cola colour and finishes black with a 1 finger puffy white head. Sweet fruit flavors with a mellow hay and barley malt touch. Palate is coriander and fruit. Great dark ale. Speaks to its name.

January 29, 2016 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs & mabel - 750ml corked & caged bottle. Deep clear ruby with a large and lasting fluffy pancake batter tan head. Dry, floral aroma - mineral and cocoa; odd. Taste follows, some dry tart fruit and even hint of peat? Maybe it's the yeast? Thick mouthfeel - airy, finishes a bit sweet.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2018 pours unclear light brown-orange with a frothy and creamy beige head offering good retention and lacing. spicy grapey maltiness, concord grapes, minty eucalyptus, bitter unknownst herbs, very spicy and peppery rye-like cereals, some sweetness - demerara like you can find in a rye whiskey; dark cardamom. bright to moderate carbonation, light to medium body, semi-sweet yet drying corky-spicy-peppery finish. must have been fun (fresher) for a relatively high gravity dark saison with lots of spicy character from ommegang yeast.

0.75l corked bottle @ Hotel Room. A nice big pop on the cork. In the glass this is a big headed one. Beigeish tall and really lacing. The beer itself is quite deep dark and almost black. Smells nice. Saisonish dark, hints of sweet sugar, some apples and a little bit of something spicy. Cinnamon i think. Like it. It’s quite high on the carbonation this, small prickling and it has a nice oily texture in the mouth. Tastes really good. There’s licorice and saison yeasty ripe fruits. Funky and hard to set words on the flavors in this one. Over ripe strawberries, some soft grass. Tasty and good. 16.06.2015
